ABug Leicestershire Nov 2017 - Venue & Date confirmation

Post by sixxdog_uk »

THIS THREAD IS NOW CLOSED , PLEASE SEE BOOKING THREAD

ABUG NOVEMBER 2017.

I have just confirmed the booking for the November meeting , it will take place from the 17th to the 19th of November at the Field Head Hotel in Markfield Leicester.

The venue was so happy with the way things ran last time , that they have extended a special deal for us to have both rooms this time , which won't effect the attendance contribution , but means more of us can attend , which is awesome.

How we use this extra space will be discussed nearer the time. :)

So mark this one in your diary , it'll be the last one of 2017 , so why not make it an Xmas themed geek fest.

Thanks for everyone who attends these events , without you guys it could never happen.

I'll open a booking thread nearer the time.

Alex :)

Never mind the booking thread; put my name down now!

Well done on the arrangements. Excellent news.

What everyone else said goes for me. The venue was great and oh, yes, the geek room was good too!

I think this has already become the booking thread, Alex! ;)

Anyway, well done on getting the extra room thrown in - I'll wait and see what your ideas are for it, but if required I'd be more than happy to set my gear up (likely running homebrew/retro software games).

Ok so looks like there is a fair bit of interest right off the bat. I'll need to go and reacquaint myself with the layout of the second room to see how many extra attendees we can accommodate then we need to decide how to use this extra space.

The way I see it and jump in if I'm sounding mad....

(1) A continuation of the main room
(2) A space for quieter coding projects where you can hear yourself think. ;)
(3) An area more dedicated to repairs and hardware development.
(4) An area for econet fans and or possible gaming?
(5) something else???

Jump in with any ideas, obviously some people would prefer to be in the main area and others might not care so we need to look at that before making up attendee lists.

But noted all the will attends so far ;)

I've also posted this in FarceBook ;)

For me, the best part of these events is the social/interactive/collaborative stuff. I say that knowing that, at times, I am guilty of having become rather too engrossed in the project I am working on to the detriment of socialising. However, we use the rooms, it is important that we don't divide into two distinct groups. I think we need to have a rule that people must divide their time between both rooms regardless of where their kit is based.

Having said that, the idea of a Wireless EcoWAN® between the two rooms seems really cool and surely must be do-able with the assembled talent.

I see a patent in the pipeline ;) Wireless EcoWAN®

I'm easy Robert , I'll go with the flow and whatever people decide , I personally love the social side of things , which is why I never get anything meaningful done

I was thinking maybe giving people who want to perform repairs and upgrades a bit more space than could be provided in the main room , just one of many possibilities.

As always I'm guided by the masses ;)

But I do agree it would be a shame if we became two camps as it were.

I'd be happy to set my kit up in the second space if that would help and free up a space in the main room for a more worthy geek guru ;)

EcoNet over Wi-Fi would be awesome , it's only a stones throw from EcoNet over TCP/IP ;)

Imagine a world wide communication network?

Ahhh it would never catch on.

Didn't you visit the ABUG in Bolton in November on Sunday last year? I think we've met there...

Yep managed to get there on the Sunday after a lot of negotiation, don't think that's gonna work this time (although i'll give it a try :D)
Sad to hear about Gary passing away, I met him for the first time there and was chatting about games, seemed like a really nice guy.

Anyone who spends a whole day in one room only will have their Acorn kit confiscated for one hour and replaced with a ZX81.

Seriously though, I don't imagine any need to enforce it. Just need to remind people that there are two rooms and to try to spend some time in both rooms. I think saying it should be enough.

I'll just spend as much time as possible in one area , until people get bored of my ill informed and frankly socially annoying behaviour , before moving on to inflict my own special brand of irritation to another group of unsuspecting folk.

A second area poses its own challenges but its got to be worth a try, at least for one meeting and see how it goes. :?:

Open to suggestions as always.
