ABug North 18/19/20 November 2016, Bolton

Post by sydney »

Hi all.

After the fantastic meeting in Halifax I'm pleased to announce another ABug NORTH meeting!

The event will be taking place on the 18/19/20th of November in Bolton, the same location we used so many times last year.

ABug meetups are open to enthusiasts of the BBC Micro, Acorn Electron, Atom and Archimedes/RISC OS machines - and typically involve:
  • members bringing their own hardware to set up and show off**
  • time spent working on hardware and programming/games projects
  • exchange of ideas/knowledge
  • upgrade and repair of poorly Acorn machines
  • collaborative work on community projects, such as software preservation, preparation/planning for displays at events etc.
  • sale of items by members (not guaranteed, but there are often opportunities to buy bits)
  • general socialising, food/drink and the odd hi-score competition!
** = please ensure that any hardware you bring that features the RIFA/Paper-type capacitors with a tendency to go POP (e.g. Beebs) have had the caps changed!

The room will be available at the following times:
Friday 18th: 4pm - 10pm
Saturday 19th: 8am - 10pm
Sunday 20th: 8am - 5pm

Costs: The room is being provided free of charge but we are paying for our own snacks and drinks so £10 will be needed to secure your place (all proceeds will be put towards refreshments)

Obviously you will have the cost of a hotel room for one or two nights if you want to stay. Holiday Inn Bolton is just around the corner (about half a mile away). To keep costs down you could always share a twin with another member.

There are also plans for a curry on the Saturday night so please mention in the thread if you will be joining.

The meeting, as always, will be pretty informal so let us know what you will be up to.

There will be a little bit more room for us this time as Arcadian's gear has been removed (this includes the spare TVs/monitors, so please bring your own screen and cables if required).

There are 28 spaces available broken down in the following way:

22 places with half a table each,
4 places on the sofa's around the coffee table - suitable for laptop use only - ,
Gary's desk for Gary - 1 place
I'm bringing a small computer trolley - 1 space

This is 8 more than Halifax, so please post in this thread and send me a PM to confirm payment information and to have your name added to the list.

Unfortunately it's the only weekend I'm free in November and I'm too busy at work to push it into December.

Hi all

Few points,

Includes fast WIFI and wired internet, tea, coffee, bottled water, multi game arcade cabinet.
We have the same tables and chairs as the previous meets.
Arcade Club is a few miles away in Bury, well worth a visit, http://www.arcadeclub.co.uk

Does anyone have a decent photo to use over on the facebook group to advertise the event? It needs to be 1920x1080.

Hi Sydney,

Please sign me up for the Saturday and the Sunday.

I probably won't be partaking in the meal on Saturday evening.

There seem to be a problem viewing the event page over on facebook. I can see them fine on my phone but I see nothing on my pc using Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer. Could everyone who is a member of the Acorn group on facebook click on the events page and let me know if you can see the 2 events in Bolton and Leicester.
Cheers,
Simon

As one of the admins on the facebook group, I've had a look, and yes confirmed does not show any events on Microsoft internet explorer. It does show on iphone safari & the app.

I've pinned the event on the page, and contacted facebook about this fault.

PS this seems like a common occurrence on facebook for other groups.

Is anyone else up for this? I am and so is Gary so I'm going to suggest we head off for the curry at 6:00pm and then those who want to can go to Arcade Club and those who don't can return to the venue in Bolton. Post in the thread if you want to join us and I'll add you to the list in the top thread.
Cheers,

It's an impressive list of visitors. Quite a list of people I want to meet.

Please count me in for Friday - Sunday :D

I want to bring one Atom (I still have to decide if it will be the green or blue one). Can somebody pick me up at the Manchester Airport at about 16:30?

I have just booked my flight and reservation at the Holiday Inn Bolton Centre hotel \:D/

My estimated arrival time at Manchester Airport is about 16:35. My flight back on Sunday is at 13:30 (local UK times). I'd appreciate it if one of the attendees can pick me up at the airport on Friday and drop me back there on Sunday.

I'm really looking forward to meet you in Bolton :D

BTW I also want to try the curry!
