ABug South - at Centre for Computing History, Cambridge August 26-28 2016
Re: ABug South - at Centre for Computing History, Cambridge August 26-28 2016
Arrived Friday at aruond 15:30.
First job was to set up a repair station.
First casualty was my own German B. With no schematic and some help from Hoglet's ICE narrowed down 4 duff DRAMs.
Now have a working German B.
Second casualty was a rare ARM development Tube Co Pro which lets lots of smoke out of the PSU. A couple of caps later and Sphere was running again.
Beautiful!
Saturday will be spent improving the code for USB Econet and doing some other repairs.

I got home from work so exhausted yesterday that I only woke up an hour ago, so won't be able to make it.
Best wishes to all at the meet.

Great photos! We need some labels hovering over peoples' heads so we know who you all are and what you're working on!Arcadian wrote:Couple of photos... LOTS of projects on the go here!

A few photos from today - all random - any apparent favouritism implied by the many shots of super high tech equipment purely co-incidental
It was most excellent putting faces to names at last!

Re: ABug South - at Centre for Computing History, Cambridge August 26-28 2016
Hi everyone!
I had a blast today - many thanks to everyone who made it awesome!
After about 10 mins there, I had enough inspiration and ideas for new projects to last me for the next year or two. In particular to the pleasant gent with the EuroBeeb who let me 'help', to Sarah for listening to me for hours and hours, and to Hoglet (I think) for his use of the RasPi as a gfx output for his Atom (with your permission I'd very much like to use that project for my own computer!) and to CCH for letting me route around upstairs.
Cheers all!
Kris.

Re: ABug South - at Centre for Computing History, Cambridge August 26-28 2016
Great day yesterday and met some new faces!
Thanks to the museum and organisers for putting on the meet. Having looked 'upstairs' I now know what a mammoth task it is to archive BBC micro educational software - there is literally tons of it!!!
I did manage to archive a whole box of Longman software, though there wasn't time to scan all the documentation. I discovered another form of copy-proofing as well (more later).
Have a good second day everyone. Not staying for today was the right choice for Mrs Flaxcottage - her birthday came first.

Another great weekend. Thanks again to Jason (jbnbeeb) for all the hard work organising it and to Jason (F.) for hosting us.
I thought it was a great venue and the presence of the public added another interesting dimension. tricky's games were (unsurprisingly) a great hit with the public. I got the impression they were somewhat perplexed by the rest of us!
Jason (F.) said he was keen to host us again (indeed, he would welcome our making it a regular fixture). I, for one, would love to go again.

There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?

I hope everyone enjoyed ABug South today - one of the worst things about moving away from the UK was leaving the Acorn community.
Thank you to everyone posting photos.

Great weekend, Thanks to everyone involved in attending or organising.
I took very few photos and the only that is worth posting here is a photo of the Saturday evening meal. Didn't look much like a garden to me.

Thanks everyone for making it a great weekend for me. I enjoyed talking to everyone about programming, hardware, software, stuff I didn't understand and finding out that there are many "special" people involved in our hobby.
Special thanks to flynnjs for sorting a beeb donated to me by one of the other members here and for solving the mystery of the screen corruption on jbnbeeb's master - apparently some 6845 manufacturers don't recommend writing to its registered fittings the displayed part of the screen, which does restrict things somewhat.

Re: ABug South - at Centre for Computing History, Cambridge August 26-28 2016
After 7 hours travelling so happy to be back at my family
But also sad I had to leave beautiful UK and all the nice people I know...
I had a great time and like to thank all the people organising this and others being there, again many thanks...
I took over 165 pickies with my camera and after selecting the better ones I still have 44, because I can't decide which one to pick I've uploaded randomly...
Later tonight on my Facebook I'm gonna upload all the selected pickies (47) in a folder ...
Greetings, Wim...

Sounds like it was a successful weekend. Looking forward to hearing what was accomplished/fixed/dumped/archived etc.
