I did mention before that I had a couple of beebs that I really wanted to get working.
A b+ for compatibility testing and because i have always wanted one.
A torch model B that was kindly donated by a member on here from France.
If anyone is thinking of helping, is there anything I could bring to help other than some spare chips, test gear, soldering tools and air-conditioning (I can't bring air-conditioning).

I Just had a thought,

Since some of us will be soldering the museum are aware that we in general have a prefference for NON Lead free solder? It might be a problem if members of the public are going to be allowed into the room?

Cheers.

No air-conditioning, but the big fans are out.

Flibble and I have started setting up in one corner of the room, mostly RISCiX boxes so far!

I have brought my A4 along to see if it can be brought back to life. I suspect it may have rotted away as I've been a bad parent leaving it in a drawer for about 5 years :-(

So there are two sets of regulatory issues. The first are the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2008 (RoHS regulations). These relate to the use of lead in electronic and electrical equipment that is placed on the market. Very few of us place goods on the market in the sense required by the RoHS regulations – they do not apply to hobbyists. In any event, the location where the product is designed and manufactured is irrelevant. So the fact that we are doing it at the museum is neither here nor there.

The other issue relates to quite extensive and complex regulations regarding what goes on in a workplace. The museum is undoubtedly a workplace (because a few people work there). So the regulations do apply. The duties that arise under these regulations apply to employers and, sometimes, workers. Since we will neither be employers or workers, there will be no duty on us to comply. There will, of course, be a duty on Jason Fitzpatrick as employer of the people who work at the museum and if what we are doing is hazardous, he will be under a duty to stop us. In any event, there is considerable debate as to whether the legal duty is owed only to workers or whether it extends to visitors to a workplace.

In reality, both legally and practically, I seriously doubt that the microscopic amount of lead we will release into the atmosphere will be a worry to anyone. If I were Jason (or his lawyer) I would be much more concerned about visitors tripping over all the cables we will be using - a source of personal injury claims on a fairly regular basis.
There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?

If anybody has a spare C64 psu and Scart lead they could bring and let me borrow that would be swell! I received an Easyflash cart yesterday and I'd like to dedicate some of the weekend to figuring out how the flip you program it!

Also, I'm packing my car with all sorts of Acorn bits that I'm looking to sell on; no computers or copros, but I have various hardware upgrades, boxed ROMs, a fair few games/apps on disc and, if I can be bothered loading them, hundreds of original tapes. So if anybody is after anything, ask me and you will be free to browse through all the bits in my car boot!

That's really unfortunate news Dave :(

Hope that pesky leg sorts itself damn soon - can't have you missing any more ABugs!

I was intending to bring you a crate of random ICs that the Science Museum gave me after they cleared out the last of their BBC Micro bits - but don't worry I'll keep them safe for you until Bolton!

I wasn't going to bring spare ones for display as I thought that we didn't have any space, but I can bring a few if you like.
How many would you like for display?
I'll bring a portable CRT for each and maybe a couple of mini co-pros.
If anyone wants to play tube elite and they can get it running, I would suggest bringing their favourite joystick.

Tricky I'll pm you

Phill, as for soldering, there's no worries re fumes. And as for cables.. The soldering will be put at back of the room well away from public.

It's all good.

Don't panic! ;-)

I have a working set of Master 512 disks that I am bringing. I could just copy them for you.

DaveH ... this one's for my family really but I don't mind sharing it to give a flavour :)

Lovely weather to be sat indoors pulling the blinds to get rid of annoying screen glare :p

Enjoy!

I can bring my C64 PSU, unfortunately my only AV cable has a habit of frying SID chips so you probably won't want to use it! :)

Thanks Sarah, Ian for offering to bring the C64 bits!

Couldn't make it in time for the Museum today but am now checked into the Travelodge on Newmarket Road.

See you all in the morning!
