Earliest examples of each machine?
Hi All,
Being a bit of a historian myself, I'm intrigued finding the earliest things, and the "How Many Sold" got me thinking who has the earliest recorded serial # for each acorn model/peripheral out there. So if anyone's up for a bit of a search, I'll throw in some potential candidates from my collection ?
32016 2nd Proc S/N R&D ANC05 150 ( not sure about the R&D part - pre production maybe?)
Acorn Bitstik S/N 10-ANF04-10010011 ( probably the 11th as unlikely to be the 10,0011th )
A440 S/N 27-AKB20-1000152
A3000 S/N 25-AKB14-1000032
Cheers

Nice and early, but I can beat your A440...ask_nz wrote: A440 S/N 27-AKB20-1000152
A3000 S/N 25-AKB14-1000032
I have 27-AKB20-1000002
Have you looked at the serial number thread?

Very nice - you definately win that one.steve3000 wrote:Nice and early, but I can beat your A440...ask_nz wrote: A440 S/N 27-AKB20-1000152

Yep - that's what got me interested in this idea, however that thread's really focused on the largest values, and it's possible that some people have only included their highest values - not the lowest (earliest).steve3000 wrote:Have you looked at the serial number thread?
Plus I wanted to start a thread

There is definitely something unique about some of the early serial number models. The A3010 is a great example of early model differences with the Mezzanine Arm2 board replacing the Arm250.
Interested to see what other early serial numbers you find!

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
You only have to read the FCO's for the Arc's to see that the early boards had some issues and had "in the field" changes. Interference from the floppy on the monitor, sync on green being removed some way through the run of 400/1 series machines, all sorts of changes.

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Good points, When I get a chance I'll pull the earliest serial numbers out of the other thread, but I'll break them down by supplier/model version where necessary. Chris's Acorns site also has a lot of serial numbers recorded - I'll take a look there too.

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Hi All
OK - here's the first batch (BBC Model A/B to B+) of earliest serial numbers per model as extracted from the "How Many Sold" thread and other places.
Makes interesting reading seeing the S/N's grouped - there's definitely a pattern to the S/N allocation, but I suspect unless you know the individual manufactures numbering scheme it would be difficult to determine which is the actual earliest of the later models (if you get what I mean).
I've added the name of the winner (owner/contributor) - if you see any mistakes, just let me know.
Enjoy (more to come)

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
One minor error:
Do you have Atari STs? Like a 1040STFM or 1040STE?
Well done on ploughing through all the data. Some interesting results

This is from my model B with the old linear power supply, black mains lead and power supply held in with nylon screws.

Issue 2
I thought I had already posted a picture, but can't find it, so here is another
I will swap it for a lower res one later, as I don't want to use too much server space.

You may will have to wait a while long time, they are rather rare. Some say that not many escaped into the wild. Others say that they were recalled. It's also possible that only a handful were made. Whatever, it was BIDTB (before I discovered the Beeb), so I don't knowleenew wrote:I NEED TO SEE AN ISSUE 1!!!
