There's also a photo of an issue 1 pcb with the same style printed serial number in the PCW magazine review from Jan 82. It was #10, and (probably coincidence) also missing the video-out BNC connector, as was the one on eBay.CMcDougall wrote:for £331 just for the original board, not the restlee wrote: we have all seen an issue 1 now that one has just sold on eBay

Earliest examples of each machine?
Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
That issue one is very interesting - love the hand written serial number.
Just noticed that the keyboard circuit on that Issue 1 photo from the magazine is totally different to issue 2 keyboards. Apart from the speaker - the circuit seems to be on the upper side as you can see green and very distinct upper side copper tracings. Makes me think that they decided to transfer the circuit to lower side on later designs.
Totally different from issue 2/3 single sided keyboard circuit (which I believe are similar to issue 4/7 except the speaker's glued on and has no speaker mounting holes).
Anyone have any ideas about the issue 1 keyboard?
Ade.

07-ALA-01 - 000333 - Not sure how significant the 07 is?
Have a close look at the expansion connector it looks quit pitted, which may indicate poor storage!

Looks like it has been stored somewhere damp, looking at the cassette, RGB, composite video and Modulator connectors on the side.

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Someone interested to see if an Issue 1 actually existed..
Well I was fortunate enough to buy one with serial 100155 model (A) with zero upgrades and fully working condition. Amazing
Heres the proof!!

Wow! She is a rare beastie!!
I believe it should have a massive heatsink on the Video ULA, so be careful of overheating....

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
I just picked up an Adelaide A3010, Serial 01-AGB15-1011001
I have a thread on the 32 bit hardware forum, needs some work.

I think the Centre for Computing History have you beat for an A4000

A3010 2mb Learning Curve (since upgraded to 4mb):
As you'd expect it's an adelaide board.

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
That's a reasonably high serial number for an A5000a. There aren't that many of them.
Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
The other A5000a serials in this thread (and others) are quite close together compared with mineSarahWalker wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 12:21 pm That's a reasonably high serial number for an A5000a. There aren't that many of them.
27-ALB32-1010157
25-ALB55-1010639
25-ALB32-1010715
25-ALB35-1010895
I saw that you once wrote there wasn't enough serials to predict the number of A5000a's sold using the "German Tank Problem" formula.

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Yes, but based on what serials we _do_ have (8 serials spread across 3 models), yours is comfortably the highest I've seen for an A5000a. So it's far from an 'earliest example'.
Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Think I may be in the running for earliest A5000 - 25-ALB12-1001695.
History of it was it was a demo machine for Academy Computer Systems in Inverness, where I had a bit of an after-school / Saturday job. I acquired it from them not long before they went bust.
Also, my two BBC Bs for the record:
Issue 4: 01-ANB01-3008824
Issue 7: 07-ANB01-3784392

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Hmm. What's going on here then? This is an A3000. AEH01 doesn't appear in the list on Chris's Acorns and doesn't seem to "fit" in the scheme of codes either! (AEH are all Econet/Ethernet things).

Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Earliest non-Adelaide A3010 I think that I've seen here?...
Re: Earliest examples of each machine?
Interesting, I’ve definitely seen later ALC15 serial-numbered A3010s with Adelaides before.IanJeffray wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 2:23 am Earliest non-Adelaide A3010 I think that I've seen here?...
Any evidence of mainboard swap? IC date codes later than 1992?
