Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
No.
Right, that's out of the way....
Mick, I knew I sent you all the Model B computing games that I could find, but I don't actually know anything about this publication. Moist sources say "tape magazine". Does that mean just a tape without a magazine?
Lee.

Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
I have a copy of the tape (no inlay, no magazine, no documentation of any kind).
I'm currently away from where it and my Beebs are, but I can probably have it posted to anyone who's prepared to archive it.

Nice find, hope someone volunteers to uef it.lurkio wrote:I have a copy of the tape (no inlay, no magazine, no documentation of any kind).
They didn't come with any inlay or magazine. Were simply attached to an A4 piece of card that looked like the front cover of a magazine to sit on the newsagents shelf. The card would have minimal details of what was on the tape with loading instructions.

It states on 8bs.com that the archive of 10 is complete apart from issue 8, but issue 11 is on sale here: http://www.retrogamingworld.co.uk/compu ... ng-no.-11/. So at least one more is missing.
Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
Cheers for that Aran.
I have bought no.11 so I will report back when it arrives.

WOW - looks like we may find some new games.
Also looking at that tape - the name APS is printed.
The only games with APS I have noticed are Wendy/Wally goes walkies by Peter Scott.

Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
Just as I suspected! Wendy Goes Walkies is on this issue. This explains the APS in the loader and now we know where it comes from.
Also on the disc is Hilo. This is on one of my discs and again, now we know where it comes from.
Code Breaker by W R Maynard-Smith is a new find though!
Mick.

Well, I ordered Model B computing no. 11 on September the 11th from RetroGamingWorld. http://www.retrogamingworld.co.uk/compu ... ng-no.-11/
It never arrived and I have had no response to my email.
That's the first and last time I use them.

Appalling! Might be worth shooting off an email though..?leenew wrote:Well, I ordered Model B computing no. 11 on September the 11th from RetroGamingWorld. http://www.retrogamingworld.co.uk/compu ... ng-no.-11/ It never arrived and I have had no response to my email. Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
Yep, sent a second email.
I do realise anything can get lost in the post, but I am more upset about the non-responsiveness...
Lee.
p.s. why is it always MIA stuff that goes missing in the post?
Maybe my postie is a beeb software collector

Sent an email asking where it had got to and was told they'd look into it and give me an answer the following day.
After leaving it a few days, I asked if they'd got to the bottom of it only to be told it had been dispatched and must have got lost in the post!
I've since got a refund too, but am annoyed that I didn't receive my disk!

Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
Got this back in 2011, but I can't remember where I got it from. Can't seem to find it again on the web either. It's only side 1 (a text file says that side B was unreadable), but it's better than nothing. The editorial confirms that this is the last issue of MBC.
The ZIP file contains a MB11SIDE which, I think, is the same content but in a single file, but I can't figure out what format it's in. Does anyone know?
Best,
Carlo.

Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
Does anyone have a photo of the cover of Model B Computing issue 11? 8BS.com only goes up to issue 10.
Just trying to find the reference to Light Bikes which was supposed to be on the tape (most likely on side B).

Um...
https://www.everygamegoing.com/litem/Mo ... g-11/6778/
I think it's been on my site for at least 6 years. Surprised no-one checked...!
I'll have to dig it out and archive it, if it's still readable after 30 years.

Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
Hi Dave,
Even if the tape cannot be read, if a scan of the pages that contains the Light Bikes game can be done, along with any instructions.
As it stands, there is what looks like a BBC version of Light Bikes posted on here with no REMS but looks like it could be a MBC game from its listing.
And...
There is another version on a PCW Educational disc that is the same game, but with a few changes for the Electron and that has the name Andrew Pusey in the REM but also contains a few mistakes in its listing where the BBC version does not.
Hope we can clarify if the BBC version of Light Bikes is indeed from the missing MBC11 tape.
Mick.

Re: MIA Model B Computing 8
Hi Mick,
There weren't any "pages".
The magazine was literally the cassette stuck to a piece of cardboard.
If Dave can't read the tape, the best bet would be to post a WAV somewhere so we can have multiple attempts at making it readable.

It's one I've been after for years...
EDIT - I tried to download the game but it looks as though I don't have permission:
https://www.everygamegoing.com/download ... enture.zip
EDIT2 - Just a bit of background to my interest in Dobsoft's The Grange (Grange Adventure). I read a review of this game in Alice's adventuring column in the Micro User back in 1984 and have been intrigued ever since to see just how bad the game was (it was probably the most scathing review of any adventure game I've seen). Perversely, Alice probably killed stone dead any future sales of the game making it even more unlikely that I was ever going to get my hands on a copy and now it's tantalisingly in reach after all these years. I did a search for Dobsoft on everygamegoing which revealed positive results for the following MIA games also - Hell's Landing and Lasers. Anyone interested in searching for more of the MIA games on the above website?
