I've got this from the TOSEC archives, it says it's by Acornsoft, but I can't find it on this site. I'll e-mail it to you if you'd like.

Re: Purple People Eaters
Hi,

We had it down on the BBC Games Archive as an Acornsoft title too, 'cos we were told it was, but removed it until such time as we find out for certain. Is there an author mentioned at all, or maybe a dead giveaway REM or two in one of the program's listings?
Re: Purple People Eaters
The only necessary file on the disk is BRICKMA, a BASIC program but with no REM statements or high score table to give anything away. However lines 10 and 20 are missing, presumed deleted so they may have contained some information.
INTSCRN is the 4 x coloured Acornsoft logos, but with no additional text, which would have been simple to add.
Re: Purple People Eaters
RIGHT.

I had a brainwave last night and checked the game PLEGARON PEOPLE EATERS by RH Electronics. It looks and plays exactly like the game described! Stick men, blocks to trap the monsters, it's all there ("All" being a moot point here in such a basic game).

So how did it come to be considered an Acornsoft game? Well, RH was based in Cambridge just like Acornsoft and several other companies, so I suppose the game could have "done the rounds" before being ultimately snapped up by RH. Alternatively, Acornsoft's brief flirtations with RH - to the extent of Herman Hauser and Chris Curry considering buying it around 1983/4 - may have influenced some people's thinking.

Of course, if there IS an Acornsoft-branded version of the game (under either the Purple or Plegaron title) out there, that'd definitely worth sharing on these pages. Hope this won't be a cue for Dave B to knock up another of those nonexistent games he invents just to confuse me.....
PLEGARON / PURPLE People Eaters
The Acornsoft version in TOSEC archives appears to be an earlier version than this. Only one frame for the main character, no fancy animation (!). No introduction tune, but the ability to control the number of enemies on screen and the difficulty rather than just the difficulty. Scoreboard is also an addition to the R H Software version, as is proper handling of <ESCAPE> keypresses.

purple people eaters
I'm after a game that I think was called Purple People Eaters (it may have other names).

It was a really simple game:
You - a stick man (purple)
Them - stick aliens (purple)
Game - you push blocks of bricks around to trap them before they get you.

Any ideas?
