Re: Atom Software Archive

Hi all,

Just a quick note to say V13.00 of the Atom Software Archive is now available:
Screenshot from 2024-05-05 12-38-12.png
This adds a further 67 titles, including three from Bug Byte (Disassembler, Mini Breakout and Backgammon), making a total of 1,105 titles.

For a full description and the various downloads, see the release page on github:
https://github.com/hoglet67/AtomSoftwar ... tag/V13_00

Thanks especially to Kees for helping put this release together and some testing.

There are still a few more type-ins that need to be added (e.g. Footprints, Atom Circles, Atom Alarm from PCW, plus lots more from Getting Acquainted with your Acorn Atom). So if anyone has the motivation to enter these, they can go into 13.01.

Please let us know if you have any problems with this version.

Hi Dave,

Looks great, I updated my Atomulator, same version as yours:

I think this is the closest I will get to a Atom, unless I made one.

Speaking of making an atom, I did recently stumble across this blog post, I think by Andy Challis:

HI Dave,

The Hackjunk link was interesting to read, but no PCB CAM files to make a PCB.

I was trying to draw up an Atom schematic in Kicad, but did not finish it.

Thanks very much for typing this in. It looks like a nice game.

I've given it a try, and I'm also a bit confused.

The article says: "must be moved directly in front of an opponent's piece".

Is colour being used to indicate who owns a piece (i.e. my pieces are yellow, the computer's are blue)?

Maybe I'm missing the obvious here, or maybe there is a bug!

OK, I've figured it out.

The board is fixed, and the colours/shape (of which there are eight) are part of the board,

You and the computer both have four "pieces" indicated by the highlighted boxes. Your pieces all start at the bottom. The computer's pieces all start at the top.

The instructions seem to suggest the goal is to get ALL your pieces across to the far side, but I don't think that's correct. The game ends when either party gets ONE of their pieces across. In the best case, this will take only 11 moves.

The rule is that you can only move to a board square who's shape and colour matches one of the squares directly in front of your opponent's pieces. Conveniently, those shapes/colous are shown in a panel on the left. Also, you can't move to a board square that's already occupied by your opponent.

It's possible that a game ends in stalemate, where neither party can move. I haven't had this happen yet, so I haven't been able to test this.

The game works very nicely, and is indeed quite addictive.

BTW, There is a typo on line 535: it should be CLEAR0 rather than CLEARO.

It does look like a nice game but I think the game is developed for a monochrome screen because it says the computer has black squares and the player white squares.
Don't know why the computer squares are red at the beginning and blue when they are moved.

You can remove the REM in lines 612 and 613 to view the computers options on the left side.

Also pressing 0 (zero) while selecting a square, ends your turn.

I checked the code many times but it can still have a bug because a 0 and O are very hard to determine.

Greetings

I did have stalemate once and then a message appears and you can restart or end the game.
