A310 2 faults 1 Not finding SCSI drive 2 Floppy drive
A310 2 faults 1 Not finding SCSI drive 2 Floppy drive
I will start with the floppy drive , I did not know this was faulty till I tried to find drivers for SCSI drive.
I have tried another drive & that works OK (Not the right one for A310) .
The light comes on when computer is booting but I get the error Drive Empty, the Heads do not do anything no seeking or even trying to park.
I suspect the motor but I have been wrong before.
Any Suggestions please.
Not working drive SONY MP-F63W-00D, the drive that works CITIZEN 0SDC-65C.
Am I right in thinking that this drive needs 12V to work & is that the same for all drives ?
Any way I am going to see if I can find the drivers for these see pics, I know nothing about SCSI & have always avoided it.
I have a disc with Morley SCSI utilities & support on but it did not work and crashed.
Thanks
Raymond

3.5" floppy drives normally only need 5v. It is the 5-1/4" drives that need 5v and 12v.

Re: A310 2 faults 1 Not finding SCSI drive 2 Floppy drive
I may have the support software for the morley scsi card somewhere, would it help if I find it and share as an adf file?

Re: A310 2 faults 1 Not finding SCSI drive 2 Floppy drive
That's only really true for later drives - quite a lot of earlier 3.5" drives need 12V as well. This brochure for the MP-F63W says it does need 12V.

Thanks for reply, Yes please that would be great.DutchAcorn wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 9:39 pm I may have the support software for the morley scsi card somewhere, would it help if I find it and share as an adf file?

Thanks for your reply, This would explain why the newer drive works so now we are down to the power supply I know I am not getting 12v on the yellow wire.atsampson wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 10:00 pmThat's only really true for later drives - quite a lot of earlier 3.5" drives need 12V as well. Ok as I could not get to sleep , I have had a look around and it looks like C37 is indeed at fault so I will replace this are there any others to do at the same time ?

I could not find it in my various images and floppies, but it's actually on Chris's Acorns, with the utilities disc image and the manual. Thanks for your advice everyone, C37 suffered a major blowout I have not got a 100/25v so have refitted a 16v (I will order some 25v) as I have quite a few of these to do.
Although the computer works fine I have an issue with interferance on the screen . Do I need to be ordering something else as well to fix this issue ?
Are there any other thing I should be doing to this before considering it done ?
Now I need to get the SCSI card working, then I can strip it all down again and give it all a good clean.
I have cleaned PCB with Isopropyl and cleaned with a cotton bud, I have read somewhere best to clean it of with distilled water ?

I have 2 Discs SCSI Morley, copied util to another disc but it always crashes with Type 2 error ?
Re: A310 2 faults 1 Not finding SCSI drive 2 Floppy drive
thanks for the link to Morley SCSI Utils 0.04
This worked for me in that it did not crash at 15% as my 0.01 version does.
now as I have said before I know nothing about SCSI at all, I clicked on connected devices only saw host (see pic) does this mean the drive is no good?
Thanks

Surely you want to
Code: Select all
*Configure SCSIFSHost 7

The SCSI drive will need 12V
Did you use the !SCSI_Conf application, let it configure the CMOS and reset? See user manual, chapter 2.

When I ran Morley Utilities it goes through & resets computer, so this time I turned computer off altogether and back on & got these.
SCSIFSMap (Blank)
SCSIFSAccess (Blank)
SCSIFSDirCache 64K
SCSIFSBuffers 0
SCSIFSDrive 4
SCSIFSSpindown 1
SCSIFSHost 7
SCSIFSTerminators 1
This looks more like what you are telling me.
I have run !configure & set SCSI hsrdiscs to 1
*con. Drive 4
But the hard drive does not appear on the Icon bar

Re: A310 2 faults 1 Not finding SCSI drive 2 Floppy drive
yes I did, Nothing shows up in connected devices only the Morley card now connected on 7 but nothing before or after, same in Format / PartitionDutchAcorn wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 7:01 pm The SCSI drive will need 12V

and again in Lock / Unlock.

SCSIFSAccess (Blank)
SCSIFSDirCache 64K
SCSIFSBuffers 0
SCSIFSDrive 4
SCSIFSSpindown 1
SCSIFSHost 7

I then run !configure and set SCSI hard Discs to 1 but still have no hard drive, I must be missing something Or the drive is dead.
Thanks Raymond
