MIA Model B Computing Tape 11 Side 2

Post by Michael Brown »

Hi all,
Does anyone have a copy of this tape?
We have side 1, but side 2 has a few titles on it that may be missing from our archive.

They are:
Light Bikes
Vadpast
Poker Dice
and
Fruit Machine.

Light Bikes is by Andrew Pusey as there is a PCW version of this game with his name in the REMs but that version of the game has been altered and issued for the Electron and is part of a disc with 26 games called "Educational Programs for the Electron" from PCW/Century Communications and can be found on the EGG site if you search for it and includes a book with the same name by Ian Murray. In the book it acknowledges various contributors including Andrew Pusey.
However, The PCW disc copy has some errors in it, possibly by whoever typed it in, but the book has the correct listing along with a brief loader with instructions.
This does make we wonder if PCW also did a BBC copy of this game too? There seems to be a missing book called 35 Educational Programs for the BBC Micro also by Ian Murray which may feature this game.
Does anyone have this book?

Also, a BBC version of Light Bikes has been posted on this forum. Looking at the listing (which is almost the same as the PCW one above), it may be possible that this game is indeed the missing MBC11 game, but getting a copy of the above tape along with any instructions too would confirm it.

Also, not sure if Dave E has a copy of this tape but is unreadable. Is this true and can it not be salvaged in some way like some of the other badly recorded MIA tapes have been by folk on here?

regards,
Mick.

Hi Fuzzel
Thanks for the link.
So the BBC version in the 35 Education Games book is almost the same as the BBC version that was posted here with the exception of built in instructions and also lower case text instead of capitals.

This does make me now wonder even more if the BBC version posted here is a version submitted to MBC, but we may have to wait some time to find out.

I hope it works!
Apparently the reason it isn't archived is because the quality of the recording on the original tapes is very poor..... [-o<

Hi Gavin, I was just wondering how you were getting on transferring tape 11 to modern media. If you have a WAV file and are struggling to create a UEF file perhaps you could make it available here so others could have a go.

If we also have a recording from another tape then that gives us a much better chance of success?

Any updates on this tape?
If you are struggling for time/motivation or anything else, you could think about sending the tape to one of us for archiving?

Tantalisingly, 2 games named LIGHT BIKES and POKER DICE have just been found by Mick Brown on a recent disc trawl.
Can it be confirmed if these are the missing MODEL B computing games?
