Greetings from Tokyo

Post by HigashiJun »

Hello !

I was already reading interesting threads on this great forum for a while now and I have finally decided to take the plunge and register.

I am mainly an Atari user but I love to upgrade miscellaneous 8-bit and 16-bit machines, like Amstrad, Amiga, Sinclair and so on.

I was always spying on Acorn machines on auctions sites (A5000 and A3000 in particular) but prices were quite high, especially shipping fees to Japan.

Nevertheless, I am currently a happy owner of an Archie A3000 which I have already managed to get back to life. I am now trying to upgrade this lovely machine to its maximum potential and I hope you guys could help me if I get in trouble at some point.

IanJeffray's high quality add-ons and steve3000's "Building a monster A3000" project impressed me a lot and gave me some interesting ideas for my project.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Cheers !

Welcome, I wonder if any of those old stock exchange Beebs are still around. Good luck with your project.

The Covid lockdown stopped me returning. I'm currently saving up to go back for a few months, but it keeps getting eaten up by unplanned bills.

I see... And coming to Japan is really expensive now, though cheaper than going to Europe from here.

Konnichiwa Higashi-san.
Two work trips to Osaka in the '90s gave me a small taste of Japan - would love to return for the F1 at Suzuka.
I'm impressed with what you've picked up with the A3000 and the upgrades performed - keep going! =D>

Hello,

Nice to know you've been to Japan.

I recommend you Okinawa for your next trip, just to relax.

I was always impressed by these Acorn computers, they're so great.

Anyway, thank you for your welcome !

Hello there, and wonderful to know there's at least one other Acorn computer in Japan: I'm in Tokyo, with an Electron.

And I remember using the Archimedes A3000 at secondary school, too.
Acorn Electron user since 1980-something, albeit with a three-decade hiatus

Hello origami_camera !

Nice to know there's at least another Acorn computer here in the Land of the Rising Sun.

So we have now your Electron, my A3000 and my A5000. Not bad for a beginning.
