Goodbye for now and the future of ABUG South

Post by JudgeBeeb »

There have been some significant developments in both my personal and professional life and, sadly, I am going to have to step away from all things retro. So, you won't see me on the forums and I am unlikely to reply to PMs. Please don't ask me what is going on; it is really very private.

The next ABUG South is on 10 to 12 November 2023. I will continue to organise this and it will go ahead. So I will post the booking thread in due course and I will be sending and responding to PMs that relate to this event.

However, and this is the important bit, I will not be organising any future ABUGs. It really is a fantastic venue and organising events there is really very straightforward. So, we really need someone to volunteer to organise the events in the future. If no one volunteers to organise further ABUG South events, there will be no further events there (or indeed, as matters currently stand, anywhere else).

If someone is interested in volunteering - please PM me and I will talk you through what is involved.
There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?

Thanks for all your efforts with ABUG South. Although I've not had the opportunity to attend any of them, I get the impression from discussions here that they have all been well-organised and appreciated.

All the best with the other, non-retro things.

Sorry to hear you're having to put retro stuff to one side, and thanks very much for organising the previous ABUG events, which I've enjoyed attending. Best wishes for the future.

Hi Robert,

I also want to thank you for your contributions to this forum. I keep fond memories about my first visit to an ABUG (Bolton, 2016) when you picked me up from the railway station, my first experience on the English roads  Thanks for your advises when I tried to organised retro-computer meetings and of course I have the BeebOPL for my Atom to keep the memories alive

A big =D> =D> =D> for your community work.

Whishing you all the best,
Hope to see you back one day - either here or in person,
Greetings from the South of the Netherlands,

A big thanks for organising the ABUG events and hopefully you can enjoy retro computing again soon ... =D>

Thanks for the great work in setting up the ABUG meetings - I've been to just a handful, but I've really enjoyed them and learnt loads. I was hoping to come to the next one, partly to say hello again and thank you for your help with my A3010. So many thanks Robert

Cheers,
Robin

Sorry to hear you are stepping down Robert. A shame I haven't made it to one yet. Too busy doing BBC art :D
I've always enjoyed reading your posts.
I hope even if you put all your stuff away you can still enjoy reading the forum from time to time and still dive into those past issues of Acorn User every now and then.
All the best to you

Sorry to see you go, I hope it is only temporary. My first ABUG was at the start of this year, thank you for making me feel welcome, and for the opportunity to get my Master up and running again. Sadly I won't be able to make this November one as the date clashes with my son's application and audition process to join a choir school. Best of luck for wherever your future takes you.

I just saw this and though I've not attended one ABUG in the UK live, I appreciate everything you've done. Your reputation precedes you sir and I know this community will miss you big time.

I've bought some things from you and I am totally thankful for your support.

Best wishes in all your future endevours and may the force be with you always.
