A Beeb with a keyboard Issue... :-(

Post by Multiwizard »

Today I did manage to get the other beeb of this haul:

viewtopic.php?p=413671#p413671

running... :-D

Sadly the keyboard barely response... :-(

At the power up the Beeb gives a nice usual beep... :-)

But on the screen I get, 'Language?'

I know a Master can do this but not expecting this to see at a beeb startup... :?

Apart of Shift + Break which gives a nice beep, none of the keys are functioning,

I already swapped with the keyboard with another,, but no change... :(

I also re-seated the keyboard roms on the pcb, also no difference... :(

The power-on LED doesn't light up...

Anyone any ideas what could cause these problems?...

Thanks in advance.

"Language?" means that the OS hasn't found a language to select. At this point a BBC Model B stops, so it may not necessarily be that the keyboard isn't working, it's just that you can't do anything else at this point except switch off.

PB05 should be BASIC, but as it's in a ROM expansion board, you might need to check all the connections are as they should be. Next to PB05 is 201,666 which is DNFS. The Beeb looks to have an 8271 in IC78, so there should also be an "Acorn DFS" message displaying as well, so it seems like the chips on the ROM board aren't being detected at all.

Thanks for the advice Ian,

I moved PB05 from the green position to the red position, see pic...

Now the keyboard works again... :D

& with *HELP I get an index... :)

About the Power LED it still doesn't light up... :(

I measured a bit & it gets no current at all...

PIN13 of the keyboard connector doesn't either...

Any ideas what could cause this problem?...

Where does PIN13 go to?... :-k

EDIT: I just noticed I made a mistake...

I thought the first (left) LED was the power ON light,

but I just saw it's the one that indicates the Cassette Motor...
