Potential new game unearthed

Post by sa_scott »

Hi everyone,

A recent bit of digging around unearthed a cache of my brother's half finished games from the mid-90s. Here's a screenshot of one:

Image

This one is called 'Crystals', it's a false isometric projection game, with a bouncing ball collecting stuff, before you can be teleported to the next level. I've played it, and it's quite fun - keys unlock doors, then there are bonuses and so forth)

I've passed this to my brother, who apart from being ever so grateful to me for finding it (he'd been going on about it for years; I didn't know he was working on it when I took the Risc PC away to university), is now looking at the feasibility of finishing it off.

Wonder if anyone has uncovered old games from this long ago? There must be many aborted works, derailed by the onset of growing up/facing reality/growing family*

yeah, you could say that it's like marble madness, except you dont need to control the ball anything like in that game. it's more like Orbital from 4D/Impact, or Crystal Sea from the September 89 Micro User.

i've put some updated news on my website http://www.sassquad.com/riscos, but basically, my brother has been looking at converting it to a hi res mode, and seeing how he can design more levels - there were the bare bones of an editor, but it was unfinished.

looking forward to the results :D

Looks interesting, reminds me of Orbital too. Be excellent if it got finished, maybe Retro Software would publish it ? might be worth contacting them.

It's mainly 8 bit stuff, but the main page does state Archimedes games too, so give them a try see what happens.

Did anything ever come of this? Was it ever finished?
