Just a little better. My remaining lives seemed to undergo spontaneous combustion at this speed.

LOL this is one of those early Acornsoft games I don't care for much, I prefer shooters. Saying that though, Space Panic (what Monsters is a decent clone of) isn't that great either, but it is 1980 8) I started to get frustrated with the keyboard layout, going from D & F to * and ? (not sure why the left hand was useless here? :P ) I remapped the keys to SHIFT and RETURN and that helped a bit. But the strange perfect alignment under the ladders and the need to dig several holes in perfect alignment (nearest to a ladder is a good guide) and dig, fall, dig, fall, up the ladder and dance side to side, get a monster in, then repeat the dance the level below, timing is critical, I've managed three holes and got two monsters at once. I am sure I could get better at this game, it's just I don't find it rewarding enough. On later levels, the oxygen goes down far too fast for me to think about digging lots of holes and persuading the monsters to drop into the right holes

I can't even get started on the level that goes at a frantic speed. Two lives straight down the gurgler!

Anyway, here's an extra 110 points.

I quite like this game, although I've never played it before. By luck, I managed to get a green monster and realised how to do it. It's a similar layout to Smash'n'Grab, but this is much more smooth. Here's my score...

Yeah... as soon as I loaded this one up I remembered how bad the key layout is. Key remapping surely puts us on an uneven footing to those who are playing on actual hardware 🤔

I wondered if left handed people were better at this layout. I'm right handed and I might as well cut my left hand off trying to get it to do D and F  I did think of an idea like the old German WW2 Enigma machine, to have a plug board where one key could be mapped to another electronically. It feels very complicated given the way the Beeb scans the keyboard.

I'm left handed MM and it's not any easier for me than for you. It's an abomination this key layout.

Bit of a breakthrough. I got really lucky here and was able to drop the green monster onto the white one on two consecutive levels :D
..and then nearly lost all record of it as I captured the screen while the flashing colour of the score had switched to black [-X

Didn't have as many games on this as I'd have liked!

Score: 18900

High Score Tables Updated for Season 22, Round One......

This game is a real classic that's pretty enjoyable. The controls are a bit awkward but a little practice and you can do fairly well as you can see by the scores.

Unsurprisingly, we have a winner and that is Venger . Congratulations on an excellent score and win Venger. =D> =D>

On a side note I'd like to thank all those who played this round. We had 12 playing this game this round so.....Thank you!!! It seems we are mostly averaging out at 11 so this participation is a bit above average.

As usual please check to ensure I've not missed anyone's scores because it's easy to miss things on this and I really don't want to do that for anyone's hard earned score.

Phew! Good to know. Microsoldering OK, but microsurgery, especially with no hands...
