Volcano : Do the rocks follow a pattern?

I've been playing Volcano and was wondering how do the rocks work that come out of the volcano? I was thinking that someone here may have had a look at the underlying code.

Is there just a standard set pattern? or multiple patterns or is there some other element that alters the patterns? I presume they aren't calculated in real time?
