AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
After chasing bug after bug, I decided to completely replace all the sockets in my Atom with machined sockets. This restored it to perfection. I have the AtomMC V4 installed along with the noise killer. I have never been able to get the MC to autoboot no matter what I tried. I always have to type ,,LINK#AFCC" to start it.
Regardless, it works well and its a pleasure to load Hoglet´s amazing archive and skim through old and new favourites.
This is not a complaint or a plea for aid. Given enough time, I am sure I could get this to work. This post is simply to show off my Atom.
Thanks to all of you on this forum who helped me.

Re: AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
The 6522 VIA was removed before final assembly.
Re: AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
It looks like you didn't close LK3. When you have the MMC ROM in socket 24 (#Axxx block) then you need to close LK3. The AtoMMC generates an IRQ on reset and if LK3 is open then this IRQ does not reach the 6502.

Hi, thank you for looking at that.
LK3 is closed but the jumper is on the other side of the board.
The machine has had nearly all caps replaced. All electrolytic and most of the ceramic.
Only a few large ceramic caps remain original.
I have not fully traced out the PL8 and the LK3 area. This being the case, perhaps
there is something discontinuous there.
Also, the 82C55 is there temporarily. I simply wanted to see if I could get away with it
for the power savings. The same behavior was there with the original 8255.
I will check the entire PL8 section to verify continuity some time soon.

Re: AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
What size SD card are you using? A very large SD card can take too long to initialize.
What does *HELP return? The boot loader needs to be 3.0 or later for the v4 hardware, or autoboot won't work.
What does *CFG return? Bit 5 of needs to be set to enable the autoboot interrupt. The usual setting *CFG E0.
I would also check continuity of IRQ end-to-end, ftom pin 4 of the 6502 to pin 4 of the PIC (RA4)

Re: AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
I did set #E0 and various other settings.
Hmmm.... the card is rather large. 16GB.
I hadn't even thought of that. I should have a 512MB sitting around in a drawer
here somewhere. That is something to try.
The machine functions, otherwise, better than it ever has.
I am going to add the joystick soon so I will take another crack
at this then. Will report back here.

Re: AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
I use a 32Gb sd card with out any problems, no delay what so ever
Re: AtomMC V4: works but autoboot never does
Ok, thats good to know.
I will get back on this over the holiday season. It will be nice to
have this working so that Atom can essentially become a console.
This will make it immediate fun for the kids.
Kind regards and a wonderful holiday to you all,
Kenny
