Nec Pluribus Impar

Post by TobyLobster »

It seems that Matt Newman (of Fortress fame) was going to make a Marble Madness style game provisionally called Nec Pluribus Impar (a terrible name surely):

Seems like there may have been a 'preview', but I'm curious, anyone know any more?

Given the lack of replies I'd just make the slightly tangential comment that the game would have had the distinction of using correctly formed Latin for the title. All the others I've come across get it wrong. It's always much safer to create a title in your native language.

Well the only other mention I can find is in Acorn User, Feb 1988 https://archive.org/details/AcornUser06 ... 8/mode/1up where they call it 'Pouribus', so there you go.

Surprised that a screenshot never surfaced. Anyone ever tried contacting Matt Newman about this? Richard Hanson seems like another worthwhile call - could conceivably be heaps of demos that he's still sat on!

Made me laugh to read the game reviews a couple of pages after that. Some of the comments in them have not aged well:
"The platform-and-ladder game is an old and creaky format which deserves to be given a rest." and "you can't squeeze much more life out of poor old Repton."

Didn't some record label boss turn down The Beatles, saying "Groups with guitars are on the way out" ?

I wonder if it was going to employ the same diagonal scrolling tech as used in Fortress? Someone out there must be in contact with Matt as he was featured not so long ago in the World In Pixels book.

I don't remember any scrolling other than vertical, but I guess it could have new courses.
