Joystick

Post by DaveG »

sizeable chunk of what i guess is machine code

used to load it from tape
ran to something daft like 6F in hex

it asked you what the keys were for your none joystick game

and you chained or */ the appropriate chunk of the game you wanted to play

if all was well you had joystick control where none was available in the game

true joy

if it went badly the screen corrupted or the game hung or failed to load and all you'd enjoyed was a very long wait with yer stick in your hand

obvioulsy this software was usless for kingdom of Hamil but was responsible for similar levels of annoyance and frustration due to its monumental tape based load time

anyone got it or know anything about it
was it normally disk based? rom based?

if i can find the tape i'll post it up

There's a set of joystick utilities for the Voltmace Delta joysticks here.

Is that the one you were looking for?

Sam.

StarStick and Wizard are two roms that provide Joytsick support to keyboard-only games.

I think Starstick is invoked with *STICK and is then reasonably intuitive to set up. I have a boxed Wizard with instructions I can scan if needed by anyone.

Yes Martin, I need instructions to set up keys and make it work. Can you please upload a scan?

Here you go Takis and sorry for the delay, I've had some distractions of late.

There's seemingly not too much to know about the Wizard rom, just one basic command with four switch options on storage. As I said before, I suspect that Starstick is more sophisticated but I don't have any details beyond the invocation with *STICK followed by a degree of experimentation. I'll maybe have a play one day and see if I can put together some usage notes.

Whilst rooting for some old Elk notes, I opened an archive box and found a copy of the Starstick (joystick utility rom) manual  \:D/ =D>

It looks pretty good for games aficianados and is actually more comprehensive than I imagined. Anyway, I've promptly scanned said manual and it is attached here. (The front cover is just plain yellow btw.)

has anyone managed to get these working with Domarks Star wars? when I try to chain the game from disk after setting *js to the default controls I get no response from any key or the sticks.
