It's well worth doing, as level 12 is a doddle - and seriously rewards anyone who passes it

Well, there's a MASSIVE (35k) bonus awaiting those who struggle to screen 12 8) I've got used to the dodgy controls and noticed how a boulder can be used as a switch - leaning on it as it passes doesn't kill you, it just prevents your movement - something that can be used to improve movement timing. I've got to level 23 got two keys with my last life and I think I'm now officially worn out of this game  A couple of things that might help anyone playing, the ghouls move in two modes random, then focused on you, switching between modes every few seconds, timing that helps a lot when avoiding the multi-death ghouls - although the ghouls that split into two - make sure you've got three squares between the original ghoul and one of its two sub-ghouls as the fire repetition rate is too slow to kill it. All-in-all, a fun little game, an extra life after each screen would have been very welcome and please, oh please, make the bonus not kill me when it reaches zero... So I'm guessing level 24 will give a huge bonus too? Dunno if I have enough will left in my bones to try again...

High Score Tables Updated for Season 21, Round 1......

Another excellent game with controls that sometimes cause an unexpected death. This can add to some frustration but I found that as I got more practice in the keys became more intuitive. Overall, once you're used to some of the maps, the game gets easier and you go further. It's a very good maze game in my opinion.

Well, we have a winner and that is, with a crazy score of over 140k ManiacMiner . Congratulations on an crazy excellent score and win MM. =D> =D>

On a side note I'd like to thank all those who played this round. We had 13 playing this game this round so.....Thank you!!! It seems we are mostly averaging out at 11 so this participation is above average.

As usual please check to ensure I've not missed anyone's scores because it's easy to miss things on this and I really don't want to do that for anyone's hard earned score.

I had seen this - with the benefit of save states - as I wanted to see all of the screens. Hadn't bothered to see what the exact figure awarded was but knew it was sizeable. Another interesting thing about that level is how you complete it by simply collecting all of the keys. Then the big bonus comes, the monsters disappear, and then you can take all the time in the world to scoop up all the treasures and mosey on to the exit :)

Went back and slogged through to it! The difficulty progression seemed fair enough - until suddenly you're faced with those indestructible blocks moving at turbo speed. Even with savestates I had to drop my emulator speed to 75% to get through! Still, I like how the levels and enemies get recoloured on each pass through and how some of the aforementioned "block maps" introduce blocks moving at different speeds too. It's just a great little game :D

Didn't notice anything too significant on level 24, other than a couple of snakes appearing after the keys had been picked up and the mega bonus had counted down.

Yeah, it's fast and I'm sure the USB keyboard and screen put in just enough lag to make later levels unplayable. Nice that you've got that far 8) could you share the savestate file? [-o<

I'd just been using quicksave as I went along but thankfully it was still stored :)
This was where I'd left off:
cryptcapers_level25.uef
(129.26 KiB) Downloaded 19 times

To qualify what I said earlier: I'd only had to switch to 75% speed on the second round of the maps with the moving blocks but switched it back for the levels with just regular enemies.

It's shocking, isn't it?
The game speed seems to ramp up to 150% on the second cycle of the levels, and then 200% on the third. Quite impossible!
I don't think anyone was ever going to (legitimately) make it that far though
