MAME Flashback

Post by Sebiohazard »

Hello everyone !

I have a problem with the version of Flashback for Archimedes on MAME. I get this error message on startup ? On Arculator it works well but I would like to use MAME for a specific reason how to proceed ?

Emulate an A440/1 instead of an A310

If you added more memory to the A310 config you'd probably get the same error.

You are running mame with RISC OS 2.

The game probably needs RISC OS version >= 3. Whic OS versions have you tried. I don't know anything about flashback, was it risc pc only?

Hello with Arculator I also had this error message ->

image_2023-06-12_230345651.png

To fix it I increased the memory like this ->

With MAME can we also increase the amount of memory ? If yes, how ?

I didn't understand your last question ?

Greetings !

Looks like you actually solved the issue in Arculator by adding more memory and selecting OS: RISC OS 3.11, what happens when you select RISC OS 3.11 and 4mb in MAME?

If you want a A310 with 4MB memory, use aa440 instead - in the MAME code, it's the same as aa310 but with 4MB memory and four podule slots.

The option to change the amount of memory is -ram, but not all of the Archimedes machines have multiple options (aa305 can be 512K or 1M, aa3000 can be 1M or 2M, etc. - look for set_extra_options in the code).

Hello I have already tried aa440 I also have an error message ? Have you seen my previous posts ? Can I send you the Flashback game for you to try ?

Thanks best regards !

In your screenshot where you select Flashback there is a big red banner that says 'Supported: No'. Why don't users actually read these messages, it doesn't work!

I'm very disappointed that MAME can't emulate Archimedes games... I don't understand why ?!

There are only a very small number of people working on it, almost always a hobby for zero pay. We should be grateful for the work they've done already.

Maybe if users showed more appreciation of emulation progress rather than complaining of what doesn't yet work, especially when MAME even tells you it doesn't work, then there would be more incentive for them (me) to work on it.

Indeed. It's almost like programming is a hard job that most people can't do. And even when they can, when they do it for free to little or no appreciation from others...

I'm sorry but I don't see what progress there is ?! None of the games I tested work ?!

@Sebiohazard - you have your answer, the emulator currently does not support the software you are trying to run.

MAME does not just emulate one specific microcomputer system, but a wide range of microcomputer systems. It is being improved, but as with any very complex system, not all parts are being improved at the same rate.

There are only a small number of people who occasionally have time to improve the emulators. Lets keep the topic helpful and friendly.

So if you would like improvements in particular areas, please try to post constructive feedback, or ask nicely for particular improvements.

Meanwhile, if there are alternative emulators, use those.
