Re: High Score Challenge - S19 - R06 - Drain Mania
Another go, and another better score. It's getting to the point where it gets too fast, and the platforms are too slippy ,and the game just becomes a bit too manic and almost unplayable.
Despite of that it's nice little game, I remember having the cassette years ago and listening to the music as it loaded in. The main characeter looks quite similar to the Doctor in the Mines of Terror.

Been away camping for a few days. Now, having a fresh look at this, I think patience might be the key! But that's hard!

Re: High Score Challenge - S19 - R06 - Drain Mania
I was supposed to be writing and delivering Xmas cards today, but some "work" got in the way I spent well over an hour on the last two scores and just slid into the side of a nasty each time. I think I was done when I started yelling about Michael Jackson never walked on the Moon (with plenty of swearing sprinkled in-between) It reminds me of the scene in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when the sledge gets coated with the special wax... This score is it, I can't play this any more, my teeth are down to the gums, my voice is hoarse and my body aches all over from getting really tense (especially non-planned partial extinction of progress) There are quite a few bugs I've noticed, sometimes a nasty can get stuck and sit in mid-air flapping, the other nasties just drop through it, then there's the crap collision detection, stuff doesn't need to touch you to kill you, adding to the frustration level. Is there supposed to be an "end" to this game? Isn't this about escaping the sewer? Oh, just noticed, I wondered why the game was so difficult, I had the S&M mode on

Re: High Score Challenge - S19 - R06 - Drain Mania
I was hopeless at this game bitd and nothing has changed.
After failing to get on the score for several attempts, I finally managed to get a long way into the game (for me anyway).
Heres my score...

Not really sure how I managed a better score, but somehow did. Definitely seem some of the dodgy detection going on, way nowhere near the water droplet was clear daylight between me and it, yet still lost a life !

A new high score, it really does pay to not lose lives early on and to save up the zaps !!
Re: High Score Challenge - S19 - R06 - Drain Mania
I really don't think that I can get any more than this. The game's absolutely bonkers without the sliding.

Not overly familiar with the game but I also felt that the character here is definitely giving out Colin Baker (6th Doctor) vibes! Maybe the game should've been called Doctor Who in the Drains of Terror?MatthewThompson wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 9:18 pmThe main characeter looks quite similar to the Doctor in the Mines of Terror.
Correct on both counts. As there's no clock running, it's quite possible to wait indefinitely on either the upper or lower pipe sections.
I got curious and, with the aid of save states, wrapped around to the first screen again. There are only 5 (or was it 6?) actual screens, each played twice, with the bonus round in between.maniacminer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 3:01 amIs there supposed to be an "end" to this game? I've also thrown in the towel. Can't even seem to replicate my last score again, let alone beat it!maniacminer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 3:01 amThis score is it, I can't play this any more, my teeth are down to the gums, my voice is hoarse and my body aches all over from getting really tense (especially non-planned partial extinction of progress)
I don't quite understand how the player collision with the monsters seems to be well handled but the fire/waterballs can take you out with a huge gap in between. Very frustrating, as you say!maniacminer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 3:01 amThere are quite a few bugs I've noticed, sometimes a nasty can get stuck and sit in mid-air flapping, the other nasties just drop through it, then there's the crap collision detection, stuff doesn't need to touch you to kill you, adding to the frustration level.

Here's a little tiny improvement. Frustrating to die with four zaps still unused.

Probably my last go now, as not really got the time to play it now.

High Score Tables Updated for Season 19, Round Six......
This game is a really nice game with good balance in game play. The only real, minor issue is the fireball/waterball tended to appear poor in the visual pixel whereas the creatures were spot on. I think it's because the two balls were smaller than the creatures but the collisioon wasn't changed to reflect that.
We do have a winner and that is Venger. . This game was much closer than the last game in that there were at least 3 or 4 people within reach of catching Venger, great game all and a very nice win Venger.
On a side note I'd like to thank all those who played this round. We had 10 playing this game this round so.....Thank you!!! It seems we are mostly averaging out at 11 so this participation is a bit below average.
As usual please check to ensure I've not missed anyone's scores because it's easy to miss things on this and I really don't want to do that for anyone's hard earned score.
