L - A Mathemagical Adventure

Post by Maths Teacher »

Hi,
I am new here - I just discovered this site when I googled 'Martello Tower online'. I looked in the Archive to see if you had been able to reproduce another wonderful maths adventure game called 'L -A Mathemagical Adventure'. It was produced by the ATM (Association for the Teachers of Maths). I could not find it in the Archive. Can you advise please?

It's available here:

It's a very nice game, I remember solving it many years ago.

If you like me ignore sigs, you might have missed Lurkio's Lets Play
This is an entertaining play through, and in my opinion, well worth watching. The commentary adds a lot of value.

I've just started playing this again for the first time since bitd. I remember it fondly and wondered if anyone had played the Archimedes version and whether there's a copy of it anywhere. Presumably it's identical to the BBC version but you never know...
My source for this is TMU, November 1989, page 112. A reader enquired where he could get a copy for the Archimedes and was told it cost 13 quid from the ATM.

Yeah, the Archimedes version definitely existed. The OP might also want to investigate the "modern" PC version and the recent remake.

There was also an RML480Z version which unfortunately seems lost to the mists of time :(

Is that the Nimbus machine quoted in the ad? I seem to recall they were RM or RML Nimbus.

No, the 8-bit predecessor. I'd be fairly sure the Nimbus version was running on a BBC BASIC runtime that they had for that machine.
