How do you make an Archimedes app directory executable?

Post by dbr »

What I've done, is copy files from a floppy image to hard disk, expecting I'd be able to run the app/game as normal. But it doesn't execute, nor does it display the apps icon. When I double click it, it opens the !Run file in a text editor instead of starting the game or app.

Is there a further step I need to take?

Thanks for any advice!

How did you copy the files onto the machine? It sounds like you've lost all the filetype info and RISC OS thinks everything in your app is a text file.

!Run should be an Obey file
!Sprites should be a Sprite file
!RunImage will probably be BASIC or Absolute

Press the Menu (middle) mouse button over each file and go to the File => SetType menu entry to change filetype.

I did add something to the RISC OS 5 Beginner's FAQ page on this matter, but the answer given (and, if I'm honest, the entire section) could probably do with some expansion.
