According to CASA, Fantasy was Level 9's first shot at an adventure type game. Does anyone know of its existence on any platform ?
I'd love to play it of course, if it happened to be a text adventure I'd be interested in porting it to the beeb...
Level 9's Fantasy
Re: Level 9's Fantasy
I'm not actually sure where that reference to the game 'Fantasy' comes from. It's not mentioned in the earliest Level 9 advertising we've found.
Edit: Ah, it is referenced in Richard Hewison's article on Level 9 that came from the 90s, so I guess it really was a thing. Don't think it was a text adventure, though.
Edit 2: Here's the quote about Fantasy from the Austin's... it comes from a Sinclair User interview...

Re: Level 9's Fantasy
'Fantasy' is not listed in any of the (many) early Level 9 adverts I've seen.
I've managed to dig out an even earlier Level 9 advert than we found in the other thread...

This seems to refer to a more general genre of fantasy games that they're selling.

Re: Level 9's Fantasy
Excellent detective work 8bitAG. I was just about to send off my SAE to Level 9 for the catalogue!
Surely someone out there has a copy of Fantasy for the Nascom 1 and 2 ? Also, could someone recommend some Nascom emulator / software sites please ? In particular I'd like to play the 16k version of Colossal Adventure if possible.

Re: Level 9's Fantasy
All are working in MAME, both 16K and 32K version of Colossal available from http://www.nascomhomepage.com/#TheNascomRepository Unfortunately not aware of Fantasy being dumped

Re: Level 9's Fantasy
Sadly, no sign of Fantasy. This appears to be the main source for Nascom stuff, and has both the 16K and 32K versions of Colossal Adventure.

It's absolutely amazing (and sad) how much of the history of a big, well-known software house like Level 9 is unarchived!
No 16K version of Adventure Quest seems to survive across any of the formats.
Re: Level 9's Fantasy
I wonder if the Colossal Adventure game sold on ebay in January was the 16k version or 32k version?
Btw, someone made a tidy profit on that small collection of Nascom software...

Re: Level 9's Fantasy
Yeah, it was an interesting bundle with, I think, potentially Syrtis' 32K version of Adventure in there... twice.
(Note: for anyone just discovering this thread... sadly, contradicting posts made earlier in this discussion, it was found that the Nascom archive actually had the 16K and 32K versions of the Syrtis Adventure... The 16K version of Colossal Adventure is still lost... Only the 32K version is preserved on any format. We don't have any of the 16K versions of any of the early Level 9 games.)
