Micro Adventure

Post by Dethmunk »

I'm getting together my first 'Type In Basic Series'. Taking type in listings and giving them a modern update, sort of show what they could be with modern tools.
First up will be a small adventure called Micro Adventure (originally called MicroPuzzle) published in Usborne's Weird Computer Games book. :)
Its a fun little project. Enjoying typing it in and the inevitable de-bugging... LOL
Currently drawing up the location graphics.... Should run on BBC Micro, Electron and Master (I assume).

If I can, I might add some additional puzzles or locations too.

Your artwork's brill, as usual, but I'm still waiting for that write-up, John...

That’s looks fantastic.
If you ever get the time, it would be good to see your interpretation of "Haunted House" from the Osbourne book "write your own adventure programs".

Back in the day I borrowed this from my primary school library. Having dutifully typed it in a typo in the secret spell made the game impossible to finish, resulting in my user name on this forum!

So the differences over Les Howarth's original are things like...

* Bespoke graphics for every location.
* Very basic music and sound effects.
* Extended location descriptions and item descriptions.
* Some minor bug fixes from the original type-in code.
* Additional Loader screen and in-game Titlescreen.
* Tweaking object names to make the game a little easier to play i.e. 'Remote' instead of 'Remote-control'.
* Additional coding and text description to make puzzling a bit easier to work out. Good example is the 'Thread' and 'Tree' puzzle.

Hopefully it makes for a great little, not too difficult adventure. \:D/

As someone says on Strictly, A-MAY-ZING !!
Can't wait to play it, you have a fantastic talent with graphics !!
Come to think of it, my 380 location MUD type adventure could do with a few images..

I've mentioned the game again on Twitter and it's getting loads of interest and very nice comments, particularly about the graphics.

I can confirm that I had that issue too. I just used Edge to download it instead. You may be able to get around the block if you zip it up, perhaps? It depends on the reason that Chrome/Google have decided that they don't like the file.

Thanks for the heads up I'll take a look at it. I use Opera and it was fine at downloading it. Zipping it up should fix it. Hopefully. :-)

Haven't been on Stardot for a while, so just checking up on some of my posts. :D
This was a fun little adventure to play around with. I didn't add anymore locations in the end, although I did add a minor tweak to one of the puzzles. I think if I was programming this from the ground up I would've added more locations for sure, but I wanted this to use the majority of the original basic code (that was the point). Anyway I hope people had a bit of fun playing it. I fixed the link on http://www.rucksackgames.co.uk so downloads should work now. :)
