While playing the version of this adventure at bbcmicro.co.uk,I discovered the command 'Cut key' causes the program to crash. This command isn't required to complete the game, but it is one that is likely to be tried in the process of playing it. The version at flaxcottage.com is the same.
Do all releases of Martello Tower contain this bug? Should it be fixed?
The problem is a missing colon at line 13215 of the main program ('TOWER2').

Re: Martello Tower bug
Interesting. I've never really played the adventure.
I have taken a look at the latest version I have, which is dated 1991 and is an ESM release for the Archimedes computer range (the code is the BBC code and runs inside !65Host). In the program TOWER2, line 13215 looks to be OK there. It reads;
3215 IFr<>15m$="I can't see where to cut it!":f=1:GOTO13250
Earlier versions read;
3215 IFr<>15m$="I can't see where to cut it!":f=1GOTO13250
It would appear that this fault was corrected in later versions. The version on my website came from an early compilation and so had the error. I did not reinvent the wheel by archiving that which I already had. I shall correct the version on my website to match the version in the Best 4 Adventures.

Re: Martello Tower bug
I took the version of Martello Tower from John's eduware site and substituted it for the buggy version that was on bbcmicro.co.uk:

Many thanks to both of you for sorting this out so quickly.

Re: Martello Tower bug
I've got a copy of the original disk and TOWER2 contains the following line (variable names seem to have been changed)
There are different file names / sizes too ... i'm not sure if this is a later BBC release or not...
Code: Select all
13215IFH<>15G$="I can't see where to cut it.":I=1:GOTO13250

Re: Martello Tower bug
I "donated" Martello Tower a while ago when it was a missing title and the image I made also has this bug. The SSD is dated January 2003, which seems an improbably long time ago and many years before I was on the forum, but it's possible that I made it back then, and that I caused all this !!
