*. / Stardot Forum Upgrade - Sun 29th November

Post by Arcadian »

Hi

Tomorrow (29th Nov) we will be upgrading the forum software. The site will be down for a period of time on that day so apologies for the outage.

General advice is to always store any big posts you're about to make in the clipboard (or in a separate text editor), before you submit it to the site, just in case there any network problems.

As always, if you have any issues or comments, shout out in the feedback forum.

I did try the update this morning but there was a huge complication. I will have to solve this before I can retry the update.

AFAIK no files are changed so the forum should be OK.

I changed a lot of files with update conflicts and retried the update. But there still are conflicts and I cannot get past the point to continue the update.

Although that I moved the forum directory to a temporary name and restored the back upped files there is now a warning when you post an image or attachment. All the original files have been restored, the database is unchanged but still the forum behaves different than before the updates. I am working on this.....

Just two images to test the uploads.....

During the preview this works without PHP warnings. There's somewhere a conflict in the vendor directory. I don't get it:
  • I make a backup of the forum (PHP) files
  • I do the update which fails and leaves the system broken
  • I rename the forum directory to forum.bad
  • I restore the files from backup into the directory forum
  • ... and the vendor directory has a conflict somewhere ... ?
  • I did another restore of the files
  • I renamed the vendor directory to vendor.bad
  • I moved the vendor directory from the second restore to the forum directory
  • Problem solved :-k
Very strange .....

Edit:

BTW ... I won't try any updates today. So please continue to use the forum as you like.
