Looking at what has been possible with recent conversion I was thinking about Rtype. It was converted to other 8bit platforms but never made it to bbc it seems

Re: rtype bbc micro conversion
Personally I’d look at the Nula thread.
Think the colours avail would really get rtyoe looking awesome on beeb maybe master.

I think you are looking Master + NuLA as you would need a double buffered screen to allow maximum time to draw without tearing or flicker and NuLA for hardware pixel scrolling 1 pixel every two frames without the hassle and possibly in 240x256 psudo 16 colour mode.
I did do a proof of concept for the Model B, which shows the scrolling and landscape timing (coloured lines) taking at most 1/4 of a frame and usually 1/8 of a frame.
Watch in 720p50 for an idea of how smooth it could be. https://youtu.be/qZutBb3bCqw?t=24
Gil an I did this BITD which was partly influenced by R-Type.

Doing it* is possible, me doing it is unlikely although I would love to, I don't have the energy to stick with a big project any more. If anyone wants to do it, I happy to share my code and ideas but it will be a huge job.
*It being something that looks similar and feels like R-Type, but there are some parts that just aren't practical.
PS Encouraging image

Re: rtype bbc micro conversion
I would be interested in looking at the code thanks

The drawing and scrolling code is at the end of this thread, along with an explanation of how it works.
