London Show / Saturday 28th October 2017

Post by helpful »

This year's RISC OS London Show, with added ABug meetup, is taking place on Saturday 28th October 2017, at its usual venue of the St Giles Hotel, Feltham, TW14 9AD. Entrance is £5 with under 16s free, open 11am-5pm.

http://www.riscoslondonshow.co.uk/

The initial list of exhibitors is already up on the website, and it's already quite long :-) However the Beeb contingent is looking a bit small this year so if you want to take a stand, just £5, do get in touch ASAP.

The show looks like it will have quite a games theme this year:
- Tricky will be there with his Beeb masterpieces
- AMCOG now have 8 original games, all written in BBC BASIC
- Soft Rock Software will have a compilation CD or memory stick with all their games
- Jon Abbott of the Archimedes Software Preservation Project is running a games arcade using original machines and emulation on the Raspberry Pi. This will include his new improved Zarch on the big screen!

The charity stand will again be raising money for Combat Stress. Bring along your unwanted Acorn hardware and software, or collect some "new" stuff to add to your collection!

Plus of course all the latest developments in RISC OS :D

Hope to see lots of you there.

Bryan,

Only three weeks until this year's London Show!

For the StarDot exhibitors, we've got:
- Tricky with his latest amazing game conversions
- jbnbeeb with his still in progress new game :-D
- lazarusr with BeebOPL
- RobC demonstrating VideoNuLA, hopefully with some for sale too!

Anyone else want to have a table? You've got about a week left to grab one.

Everyone else, just come along for a play!

Bryan.

I need to have one day off from Power Up at some point so might as well book it for ROLS.

Put me down for an ABug table in the StarDot area/room please Bryan! :)

Do you mean you want a table to show stuff? If so, drop me an email to discuss what you need - show2017@riscoslondonshow.co.uk

Or if you are just coming along to see what everyone else has been up to and have a chat, then simply turn up on the day and grab a ticket on the way in :-)

Same for everyone else too of course!

I think I volunteered to collect then and take them to Leicester, but I guess anyone else going there can take them as I will have a car full that weekend.

Forgot to ask, what are you planning to have on display? I'll add it to the show website.

Do we have any Atoms or Electrons yet? Anyone bringing a Pi copro?

If anyone Arcadian maybe? wants to have a version of PoP running on real Master hardware then let me know and I'll send you a new WIP disk image. Still a long way from being finished but definitely made a lot of performance improvements recently.

The show is next Saturday, hope you are all prepared!

The full list of theatre talks is now up on the website. We have eight speakers this year, including StarDot's RobC talking about VideoNuLA and Paul Emerton describing his BBC media preservation efforts. http://www.riscoslondonshow.co.uk/theatre.php

Setting off in five mins (from Kensington), should be there around 8am.

I've got a table for Retro Software and will be showing off Castle Raider running on an Electron w/ Mega Games cart and White Light on a BBC. I've also got the latest version of Kieran's Prince of Persia conversion for the BBC Master with me. :)

Yes - thanks from me too for everyone who helped organise this.

It was great to meet up with people again and to meet new people.

I'll be glad of the extra hour in bed though as I'm pretty tired now!

This was my (left 6) and jbnbeeb's 8-bit row (after closing), Robc was on the other side, along with Arcadian's displays.

Lazarus and jbnbeeb's wife sneaking a quick game of AstroBlaster and Phoenix.

And finally, the next, next generation getting familiar with the 8-bit era.

The two lads played all day, except a very short break for lunch, they worked out the stairway to hell menu and tried many beeb games that I had never seen before. Custard Pie fight caused much hilarity and Warlords was a big hit too.

Thanks to those of you who have uploaded photos. :D

An off-topic question for the 3rd Event crew: is that a Skytone Alpha minibook in your setup (also here)? If so, have you found a source of replacement batteries for it?

I'm intrigued as to the BBC games on display. I'm guessing the nearest one in this picture is Jeltron. I can't quite figure out what the one next to the Prince of Persia demo is. Any clues?

My work in progress centipede on the left, not sure about the one on the right, but Rob did have a series of pictures showing on his Nula some of the time.

I think the picture is of Xenon 2 but it isn't a game port, it's one of the images from Simon's NULA gallery disks. (I had Simon's stuff running on the Compact for most of the day.)

The show theatre talks are up on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWJaZoH ... UN87IF2gSM
Thanks to Leo for doing these, and for running the whole theatre setup on his own this year. Excellent job!

The show date is not picked at random you know! And on that note, next year's show will be Saturday 27th October 2018. Hope to see even more of you there :-)
