RISC PC Hard Drive woes :(

Post by woody.cool »

Hi all,

I've had a bit of an issue arise with either my hard drive or the filing system, not sure which!
For some reason, RISC OS now believes my hard drive is 'write protected'

This came about because I was copying something off a floppy which happened to be a tad bit dodgy .... I thought that I may be able to see how bad the floppy is with CheckMap so issued the CheckMap command from a * prompt, but I forgot to change to the floppy drive first #-o

I realised as soon as I saw the filenames on screen, but best thought I should wait for it to complete.

Anyway, after this episode, the hard drive has become 'write protected'

Is there a way of 'write enabling' the hard drive or is a re-format required?
Should I be worried about CheckMap doing this? Is my drive on it's last legs? [-o<

I'm a little new to hard drives in Acorns as back in the day I only ever used floppies on an Acorn.

Any help is very much appreciated

Cheers

Problem solved :D

Turns out that 'LOCK' in the 'Configure' program also locks the hard drive as well as locking the Configure program #-o

The fact that I ran CheckMap was irrelevant.
