Thanks go to Ken Lowe for the IntegraB and B Plus support. The other changes are mainly bug fixes.
Also check out OddJob - I previously unreleased game!
B+ support (some problems with configuration)

Post by tartartar »

You beauty Mike! I've been looking for "64K B Plus" support in BeebEm for aaggggggeesss! Thanks very much.

A problem I've seen is that there is no easy way to select between a B+64 and a B+128 through the GUI. And there are issues with the Roms.cfg file. It is strange that by default there are 4 sideways RAM pages listed in the B+ configuration section, and yet choosing the B+ through the GUI only reads "Acorn OS 64K". I think this may be to do with using the Watford 1.44 DFS, because when I edit the roms.cfg to specify the Acorn 1770 DFS (version 2.26), suddenly the 4 RAM pages are recognised and the boot up reads "Acorn OS 128K".
Any idea what the problem is here?

Another problem is that I couldn't select the 1770 DFS through the GUI for the B+ (which would be it's natural filing system). Instead I had to edit the Roms.cfg file and replace in the BPlus section 'WDFS.ROM" with "DFS-2.26.ROM".

And it would be great if the configuration of the roms.cfg through the emulator GUI options worked 100% too.

Just an FYI:
Another thing I did notice with "B-Em" and "Model-B" (the other prominent beeb emulators, it that they DON'T accurately emulate the model B+. I'm gonna play around with your B+ support in BeebEm v1.6 to see if it's better than theirs!

Cheers for the new version. It is very encouraging!

p.s. maybe you should rename the title bar to read: BBC B/BBC B+ 64/Master 128 emulator!
HowTo Switch B+ Modes

Post by KenLowe »

Selecting between B+64 and B+128 can be done from the GUI. As can another couple of modes in between. It's a matter of knowing what to do

As you've already noticed, the B+ doesn't work particularly well with the Watford DFS. This isn't a problem with the emulator. It's just that the Watford DFS wasn't written with the B+ in mind.

The best combination for the B+ is the Acorn 1770 DFS v2.26 (although I'm sure there are other DFSs out there which work correctly with the B+), and the Acorn 1770 floppy controller. To set this up correctly, you need to:

1. change the DFS rom in the rom.cfg file (perhaps one day, you might be able to switch roms from the GUI instead of altering the roms.cfg file).

2. select the Acorn1770.dll floppy controller from the Options/Model B Floppy Controller/Select FDC Board... menu in BeebEm.

Once you've changed your configuration you should get the "Acorn OS 128K" prompt. If not - don't panic... In order to get the 128K prompt, you must 'Allow ROM Writes' to the rom banks 0, 1, C & D.

If you disable ROM Writes to any of these banks, then the startup prompt will change accordingly. By selectively disabling 1, 2, 3 or all 4 of the rom banks, you can get the following startup prompts:

"Acorn OS 128K" (with 0 ROM writes disabled)
"Acorn OS 112K" (with 1 ROM write disabled)
"Acorn OS 96K" (with 2 ROM writes disabled)
"Acorn OS 80K" (with 3 ROM writes disabled)
"Acorn OS 64K" (with 4 ROM writes disabled)

Simple really

Ken.
