Some help please

Post by Skeletor »

Hi,

I've got BeepEm running sweet, but i need to know how to run some games i downloaded.

the dsd or ssd games are fine, but i want to play some games i found on the BBC Lives website. I'm not sure what emulator i need, or how to convert them into ssd so BeepEm can run it.

I don't know what the file format for these games are...

heres the link that i got it from

<a href="http://www.nvg.ntnu.no/bbc/sw/MicroUser ...

or

<a href="http://www.nvg.ntnu.no/bbc/sw/MicroUser ...

I'm not even sure if these are the games i'm looking for, maybe someone else knows?

The first link i think is for a game where you have to collect Crowns, and Keys and avoid getting bitten by spiders. I think there were ladders that you had to climb up aswell. It might have been called "The Tombs of Tutankhamon" or something. The game is not "revenge of tutankhamon" as i have already tryed that and its not that game. Can anyone help?

Hi,

The zip files you have downloaded contain extracted files from a disk image and need to be re-inserted into a disk image before you can load them in BeebEm. (I think the extraced files are useful if you are transferring the files direct to a BBC Micro from your PC).

To create a disk image follow these instructions (I've used Catapult.zip as the example below - you should be able to work out how to do the other games from the instructions below):

1) Download BBC Disk Explorer from <a href="http://www.8bs.com/filecon.htm#BBC%20Ex ...
2) Extract the files from the BBC Disk Explorer zip file to a suitable directory
3) Double-click BBCExplorer.exe to start the program
4) Extract the files from Catapult.zip to a suitable directory (this should create two files, one called CATA and one called CATA.inf)
5) In BBC Disk Explorer, Click on the "New" icon in the toolbar which should open a file dialog
6) Select a suitable directory e.g. BeebEm's DiscIms directory
7) Change the filename to Catapult
Select ".SSD" as the extension - you only need a single sided image for this game
9) Click "Open" to close the dialog
10) BBC Disk Explorer will now have created the disk image which you should be able to see in the left hand disk image "tree"
11) Make sure "Disk images->Catapult->Side 0" is selected in the disk image tree
12) Drag and drop the "CATA" file into the right hand window of BBC Disk Explorer. It should pick up the Load Address, Exec Address etc from the CATA.inf file as long as it's in the same directory as the CATA file.
13) Close BBC Disk Explorer
14) Start BeebEm
15) Load the disk image using "File->Load Disk 0" and select "Catapult.ssd" and click "Open"
16) Load it using CHAIN "CATA"

Oh, you'll also have to map the SHIFT-LOCK key to PC keyboard key if you want to play Catapult as by default BeebEm doesn't do that for you - you'll have to define it using "Options->Define user keyboard".

Sorry, not sure about the game you're after though...

Hope this helps.
