Re: Save the Date: ABug North, 26th-28th January 2024. Manchester
It's almost on my doorstep, so I'll be there. Yes please Dave! I would like to attend, to meet everyone, but would not be staying overnight. It's probably not much different travelwise as the ABUG South, haven't been to Manchester for a while, not since I worked there, so I'll hopefully be able to ...

Re: Save the Date: ABug North, 26th-28th January 2024. Manchester
Would it be too much to ask if you could confirm with the venue that they will be OK with us soldering in the rooms etc, as I'd rather have this checked in advance than get a bolocking when we set the fire alarm off or something like that....... Yes it's all cleared, we will position anyone using s...

Re: Qwak level editor
Very nice work.
I've attached the editor that the author used to create levels, which I archived on the same day that I [only just] managed to recover "Zap" from the author's master discs, back in 2008.
I actually forgot this existed, but this thread reminded me.

More sad news - markjw
Excerpt below from an email I received earlier today from a cousin of Mark Wanklyn ( markjw here on Stardot) I have only today found how to access Mark's email account and so I am mailing ALL 400+ of his contacts (which includes you) with the very sad news that Mark passed away on Saturday 28th Octo...

I've always hoped somebody would port Combat to the Beeb - so I'm very happy to see these screenshots!
For controls, do you think the Player 1 Option 3 (forced when 2p mode is activated) would work with Z, X, Tab (Forward), Q (Fire) ?

PS Can you tell I have run out of steam on this one? Keep going Tricky! Can't be much left to do now surely? A spot of player death is the main thing! What are your plans for those remaining 692 bytes? Is there anything you think you'll need to omit? Btw after you've trapped/killed a meanie, it see...

Take a look at:
http://8bs.com/catalogue/tmu.htm
Note that many of the downloads for earlier editions will be tape>disc conversions, due to the scarcity of the floppy disc versions from 1983-85.

Voted YES. I know Joe has been keen to host an ABug at the mill for several years (well before they were even open!) so good to see the wheels finally in motion, thanks for pursuing this! I could make mid-September 15-17, not the week before. May also be able to do either 22-24 or 29-1, but middle o...

The alternate takes for the airline / TV version are magical! Some (but not all) are here Dave if you want to relive them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gucH9STn6ew I remember watching the TV premiere on ITV, Boxing Day 1987. I was looking forward to it so much, as though I caught it in the cinema...

Re: SOURCES: Missing BBC Games Help Required!
Hi, no - nothing released by J&J - from the bio on Page 1 of the site:
Most of the games and other programs produced were made for fun. It was a hobby more than anything. But saying that, many companies start this way.
Well...this one never did. Not one title was released.

Re: Philosopher's Quest Box Art question
I suspect that you're lucky enough to possess a very early version from the first print run - where they must have originally used artwork with a very limited colour palette (it doesn't look sun damaged to me at all).
Do you have access to a scanner? It would be great to get a 600dpi scan archived.

Re: Possible new DigDug version for the BBC Micro
Enjoying trying the new alphas (I play every single one!).
Assume you're aware, but there is always a bit of a delay when you stop moving before the music halts (whilst on the arcade and other versions, the second you stop moving the music ceases). Is this something that will be an easy fix?

Do you have this version too Mick (attached)? It seems to run ok and has corrected (or alternate) lines. There are four files on the disc, as opposed to just one on the version BillCarr uploaded. I was able to download it via archive.org's mirror of the old j-jsoftware.co.uk site - see https://web.a...

Thanks Jasper, we had another cracking Pixel Dash session in Gloucester today, all the kids were glued to Rabbit Rampage from morning until 5pm when they had to go home. A few of them literally had to be dragged out of the room by their parents, such was their eagerness to finish off their level des...
