Amazing, thanks for these. That makes sense. I might grab a pencil snd draw out the circuit if I find the time, although, at the very least, it's documented.

Hybrid Music 6000 Sensor - Insides
Following a chat, I was reminded that I acquired a Hybrid Music 6000 a number of years back, and aside from an outing to a RISC OS London Show, it's been stored with my Hybrid box, waiting for me to set up my retro space. As such, I promised to non-destructively dissect it and share the electronic m...

Re: Archimedes (A5000) CMOS failure?
The A5000 is remembering the config, but the clock reverts to whatever it was last set to in !Alarm. I need to check back over the capacitor / crystal with a scope to see what's occurring on power and off.

Re: Archimedes (A5000) CMOS failure?
Subject to a nice long test, we are nearly there..! Thanks IanJeffray. There was a little track damage between the negative battery terminal and the via leading to R301. A little repair wire about 1 cm long later on the underside and we're now getting 1.24v across 4 and 8. I thought I'd checked ever...

Re: Archimedes (A5000) CMOS failure?
Thank you for the ideas. Saving the config is a good idea, although I'm specifically keen to resolve the underlying issue and nurse the machine back to full health. My config consists of 5 commands, monitor type, sync, mode, and 2 zidefs commands. My AK85 monitor shows a blank screen until then. The...

Archimedes (A5000) CMOS failure?
An odd one here, but I think I know the answer. Having fixed an A5000 by confirming power, I2C and battery charging / supply, it now works with a power on delete, or power cycle. Otherwise, settings become scrambled. What it doesn't do, is remember anything after a few hours. Battery power is fine p...

Re: POST box - An idea to add descriptions and suggest/run tests.
Thanks IanJeffray. Yes, IanS pointed that to me. I scanned lightly through it yesterday. The descriptions seem quite helpful in interpreting meanings. Now I've done the POST code and Memory interpretation (subject to testing and feedback!), I'll go read that A540 service manual before adding more.

Re: A5000 so rotten (Fixing multiple A5000s)
The A5000 I've got in front of me (which needs some TLC around the CMOS) acts very oddly and generally inconsistently because of that fault.
Sometimes I get stretched interlaced visuals, sometimes it looks healthier, but I still have a long list of unplugged. Time to do some more reading!

Next step: Philpem: Watch out as this part of the test changes on RISC OS 3.50+. It does two or four RAM Bank tests then gives a memory size summary. I can't remember if it's in decimal or hex. Another one which might benefit from special handling is "PC Style I/O Detected" This should app...

Re: POST box - An idea to add descriptions and suggest/run tests.
OK I've written a method to find the Memory readout from the POST output, and then resolve it into something easier to read. We can use this method on any part of the output, so I just need to determine more human readable values for the other POST readouts. Give me time and I'll work through some m...

Re: POST box - An idea to add descriptions and suggest/run tests.
I've added it to the top post, but here's the fork with the POST descriptions added. Its version 1, so there's a few things I want to return back to the original code, and a few bits to tidy (code wise), but it works (happy for any feedback to the contrary!). https://github.com/verifie/acorn_postbox...

Re: POST box - An idea to add descriptions and suggest/run tests.
Interesting thought there - I think key resources, e.g. waveforms may need to be hosted online anyway, and indeed that would make it useful to the wider community. However there's no need / I don't want to replace Paul-V's Retro-Kit.co.uk effort which is well resourced / functional. Certainly a few ...

POST box - An idea to add descriptions and suggest/run tests.
Following on from the impressive and excellent work done on getting an incredibly useful POST Box system together by other expert stardotters, and also following a chat with IanS at Abug in January 2023, the idea to expand the software to show the POST Error. Forked version, with HEX description rea...

That's very detailed, thank you. We're the A5000s made with leaded solder? I've often found the lead free stuff needs a high temperature to work with and is generally a bit horrible. Ive got a few non Acorn boards i can practice on. My hot air station came with a range of nozzles, but none like the ...
