Re: Opening up my A3000

Hello, The A3000 is a lovely machine, specially if you like fiddling, I hope you enjoy it. 1) The battery replacement looks good enough to me, and it's a good thing the old cell is gone, regardless. 2) That looks like a rechargeable cell from you photo, so as long as the computer gets used enough to...

Holy moley this is utterly amazing. I'm so glad Rob made these, and I'm lucky enough to have one of my own. This really needs to become a required upgrade for Beeb owners.

Re: Upgrading a BBC Master power supply with a modern 60W supply

Hello,
Thank you very much for your excellent article, although I admit I took a rather less professional approach when doing the same with my Model B.
Also the inspiration for making an external PSU brick for my ADAM.

Re: BBC B PSU Rating

On reflection the photo I took may not be that useful so a few words of explanation and I'll gladly take some close-ups of needed. 1) I pulled the old PSU from the Beeb's cage and desoldered all the input and output connections: -Two mains wires, red and black, with spade connectors -The yellow/gree...

Re: BBC B PSU Rating

Thanks for the most helpful replies, my PSU was a little dodgy... Maybe the last time it went up in smoke replacing the usual caps wasn't enough. I went ahead and replaced the guts with a Mean Well PT-65A and all is running very nicely. I had already bought one to make a UK power brick for my recent...

BBC B PSU Rating

Hi all, Hopefully a quick question with an easy answer. But I haven't tracked it down via google. Does anybody know what the Model Bs PSU is supposed to be rated for? My machine has a fair bit hanging off it and has gotten darn flaky of late. I suspect I'm either driving the PSU too hard or it's not...

Re: Solidisk 2/4Meg 256k card issue

Just a thought: Along with the previously mentioned advice when I had one of these boards it was similarly flaky in 4Mhz mode. It proved to be a dodgy 4Mhz line... Have a scootch though the manual for the alternate pickup points for that lead and see if any of those are better. Having hopefully foun...

 Glad to be of help. Oh, by the way I'm not a doofus. I'm a three star general of the grand doofus brigade! Having thanked my maker that I hadn't flipped the power switch I thought I'd follow my own advice and do it properly; so I pulled the extra ROMs I have, disconnected the upgrades, and rem...

Well I'm a total doofus! Thanks Rob, I was just about to go fire up my Beeb when I saw your reply. In my excitement I commited the cardinal sin of not checking what I was doing: "There's an IC of the correct size marked ULA"... Pull IC and in with the board. "Ooo, that's a well...

I was most excited to receive my very own VideoNuLA this weekend, a lovely bit of kit, and my sincere thanks to Rob (and others) for producing this fantastic upgrade. It was a bit of luck to discover my ULA is socketed - my Beeb has had a fair few upgrades, and as is the way of these things mods = g...

Re: Palettemate / enhanced video ULA with 4096 colours

:) Thanks for that. I should have read the thread more carefully. Um, if I may ask one more (probably stupid) question? I think I see from your explanation why 'proper' blitting/sprites isn't going to fly. I have to admit what I had in mind was less ambitious: Plot 85 (I think), fills an area of scr...

Any room to implement a hardware blitter / rasterizer? (hooked in to the relevant Plot commands would be nice too)

Ooo, I've not been around for so long... And so much to catch up on! Re: Solidisk 4Meg 256k ROM

Update: After burning the above image I have a (semi) working 4Meg 256k board. I was a little surprised that unlike my 32k board this 256k ROM doesn't report the speed: 2/4Mhz switchable. Unless I've got it wrong I think the above ROM image is for Solidisk's ROM/RAM board rather than the 256k 4Meg a...

Solidisk 4Meg 256k ROM

Hello all, Got the day off, so another daft question: Can anyone point me in the direction of a ROM image for this Beeb upgrade? Why..?
