Re: 2024 Econet LAN party: offsite Econets

I think even though manufacturer type+machine type should give a unique 16-bit machine ID, the existing machine types don't overlap between manufacturers. For example, the Acorn machine types work upwards from 1 and the SJ machine types work downwards from &FF. Some utilities (this is not an adm...

I have to say that was a gigan(e)tic amount of fun!

I reckon we distant bystanders had at least as much fun as those in attendance, we certainly did nearly all the posting! Not a single picture from the event so far: is Bletchley Park still subject to the 100 year rule?

Re: 2024 Econet LAN party: offsite Econets

Should be FFFFnnnn for load and exec for all Econet library utilities, as they are 6502 code but the language processor may not be a 6502.

Also I think we should probably think about a manufacturer type and machine type for the Pi Econet Bridge when it responds to a machine peek.

Ah yes, it wasn't working properly earlier on, just reported local numbers and never responded. Then I got a not listening on the WhoAmI bit, but it's working now. Seems to be allocating station number 2 to each station with a different network number.

Naturally I take all credit for the fix.

Response time wise, It's been working about the same as usual for me, but as I have been forced to regress to 1990s internet speed, with my Econet now outperforming my PC, I think that's a good sign.

I saw your nice Boot thing last night, and I played a game of Rock Paper Scissors against myself. Wonder if we can get a record attempt at longest distance for the game. All went swimmingly. Econet file servers thousands of miles away seem to perform better than my own a few feet away!

Thanks for this, I can confirm that the overwriting of the protection mask doesn't happen with DFS 0.90 when using an older version of NFS (tested with 3.34) which I presume predates the reorganisation of the workspace.

The Acorn 1770 DFS ROM contains the Sideways RAM utils so without the ROM, the SRAM commands will no longer be available and to load ROM images into the SRAM module would need utility commands loading from elsewhere.

On a general *.* copy you might not know that any matching file happens to be zero length. I suppose the question is more why would you create a zero-length file? It could happen by accident if some file creation operation is interrupted or a file is opened and no data is written to it and it is clo...
