5.25" drive

It's been quite a while since I used this board - pleased to see that my account is still available! After having my old BBC B restored and spending a good bit of time playing through my old games on tape, I've been trying to get my old 5.25" disk games going but without success. My 5.25" ...

Re: ELITE appreciation thread

Thing is, I always thought I'd lined myself up pretty well and was rotating at the same speed as the station etc... only for a large explosion and the 'game over' screen to pop up...

Bizarelly enough, I had an even lower success rate with a joystick than I did using the keys...!

Re: Repton levels?

I started a thread about this a year or two ago as I've got loads I designed... some on 5.25" disk and some on tape! Think there are probably about 10 sets of screens, although in some cases not all 8 levels are complete... takes you aback when you start a new level only to discover there are o...

For 'it's', read 'its'...! Just thought of another - got really into Privateer 2: The Darkening in about 1997 and managed to get to the end of the story (I think) and at that point it becomes pretty much free-for-all. Pretty impressed that you mastered the art of docking as despite taking out dozens...

Fantastic for it's time and you have to wonder why there still hasn't been a 2000s version...

I'd be interested to know if anyone ever mastered the art of docking... i.e. able to do so most of the time without crashing, as opposed to the once or twice I made it without a docking computing!

Woah, not been here for a looooong time! Again, no idea what this is (but it sounds like a mag's type-in game rather than a commercial effort) but I'd give Superior Soccer a go... you can either play or manage or both. It's from about 1988 so pretty reasonable on a technical level as well. Must chec...

A little off-topic but I've got to give the Archimedes version a quick plug here... widely regarded as being the best version of the original game.

Worth getting hold of an Archie emulator to play... or even an old Arc! :)

Brian Jack's Superstar Challenge (which I think came up in the worst games ever thread... I quite liked it though)... Holed Out... and if you really push it, Pole Position (which I guess was as close as an F1 simulator as you could get back in them days)... there was at least one boxing game as well...

I did kinda get used to it though...

I wrote a text adventure called Advent (rather than Adventure cos filenames couldn't be that long) in about 1989. It's all IF, THEN and GOTO and one wrong move usually kills you off, plus it's impossible to solve without looking at the listing as I missed a few clues off the text... so it's not grea...

Maybe there should be an Elite forum... How much you need a docking computer depends on how you play(ed) the game. I wouldn't just jump in somewhere and then head straight for the space station... I'd go around blasting pirates for a good 20 minutes first and after all that effort the last thing you...
