Re: Evolution of BBC & Electron Games?

There was definitely a point where a significant portion of new Electron releases were examples of programmers trying to push it to its limits. One page of reviews in Electron User vaguely rings a bell where all of the games had the “garbage” around the edge of the screen, which I’m not sure had hap...

Re: Largest person sprite in a BBC B game?

What about that big red monster on the 5th screen of Jet Power Jack (ie. The Yugg monster)? I mean that is just a static level decoration which is made up from a bunch of individual blocks. Might as well consider this a contender  How about the Cute To Kill bosses? Very blocky and flickery, an...

How about the Cute To Kill bosses? Very blocky and flickery, and not exactly man-on-the-street shapes, but massive regardless.

Re: What software was bundled with the Acorn Electron?

Mine came with: Desk diary Business games Snapper Arcadians Boxer Starship command Hopper This was quite a late purchase from Dixons probably sometime in 1985. I could be wrong about the date though and it could be as late as summer 1986. Similar with ours, but no Starship Command - we had Sphinx A...

Re: Acorn World In Pixels 2nd Edition

Still no The Hobbit? Strange omission, it was quite iconic with its AI characters, pretty graphics and quirky bugs; and Veronika Megler is easy to contact. Good to see Level 9 in the mix anyhow. Have to say, that’s pretty harsh given the scale of the undertaking that’s been involved here. There wil...

Re: Stryker's Run and the Machinegun

Weirdly, this was of the first couple of games I ever completed on the Electron back in the day, and probably the first I finished without a solution to hand. Bit annoying at times but never struck me as all that difficult. Can’t remember the machine-gunner - does it feature in the Elk version (have...

Return Of R2

I have a lot of time for “bad” games, stuff like Auf Wiedersehen Pet, but they have to play fair, and this doesn’t.

What about Licence to Kill?? Surely the worst. Just infinite corridors on multiple levels where all you could do was run around stabbing minions of Clive Sinclair. The instructions detailed a deeper game. It led to me & a friend to dissassemble the code & it appeared like there was more to ...

Re: Most Loathed Acorn Electron Games...

I seem to remember there were letters to Electron User coming up with various methods, but basically the programmers cocked it up. I think I somehow stumbled across hitting the ball on at least one occasion, but it was simply not a straightforwardly repeatable action. Compared to the BBC version, it...

Graham Gooch’s Test Cricket

I never tried Spy vs Spy but heard good things about it.

Re: Educational Archive not in STH

There were some disks I didn't sent on that were labelled with people's names I didn't recognise. Not sure of the nature of those disks, presumably things like CVs etc, but on the other hand I know some of those in the YTS were pretty good at coding (and one or two were absolute demons at cracking p...

Some of that might be a mixture of my sister (Elaine) and Mum’s (she’s about to be 81) files - some of it should be related to a YTS group that my ex-brother-in-law used to look after.

Was it Oxbridge where one of the puzzles meant you had to move as if you were a knight in chess, so as to check off every space on a chessboard?

I think I saw that in one of the reviews, and that may have been the youthful point I realised that one person's idea of fun isn't necessarily mine.
