Re: Evolution of BBC & Electron Games?
I remember thinking in 1993 that just a few years ago boundaries were being pushed and conversions were coming out every month including from the 16 and 32bits and now there's almost nothing. I did a quick count from the games archive which might not be that accurate due to duplications and I tried ...

Re: Master Scientific
Browsing through some old Micro Live episodes the other day, I came across a piece on Acorn's launch of the Master series. Amongst the footage, I found this shot of the Master Scientific co-pro board. Not sure I've ever seen a picture of one before so thought it was worth posting. You can see the 3...

Re: Master Scientific
"Acorn drops Scientific" , Acorn User, November 1986. How weird. I was drawn to this post because I was intrigued by the name ‘Master Scientific’. “What on earth was that?” I thought. And now I realise I probably wrote that news story! Can’t remember a thing about it. I also shuddered at ...

I think it must have been the oak beige equivalent of the gold plated Beeb. Not the one pictured above though.

I looked at Castle Master on the C64 and it seems noticeably slower than Darkside on the ZX Spectrum. The versions of 3D pool seem of similar speed for all 3 computers.

Re: Which games from other platforms did you wish was on the BBC?
Depends though, because the Z80 tends to excel in 16 bit maths, which is kinda what you want for a 3D game. It would be a great contender for a 2nd processor machine though, host doing the rendering, parasite doing the mathsing. #-o presumably at c64 performance level then although I haven't seen it.

If memory was so expensive then how did Sinclair include 48k in 1982 and Commodore 64k a year later than the BBC micro?

Sighting of Master Scientific
I was reading about the variants of the BbC Micro including clones and the Gold-plated Beebs in view of the fact I saw modified BBC micro in a skip outside a University science department around 2001 (message me if you want to know which). It was identical if memory serves to the gold-plated Beeb, e...

Re: Which games from other platforms did you wish was on the BBC?
Some of the Freescape games (Driller / Total Elclipse from Incentive) would possibly work reasonably well on the 'Beeb. Saboteur (Durell Software) may also of been one that should of possibly been 'dragged over' Loads of simpler platform games too like Frankenstein (PSS Software) or BombJack (Elite...

Re: Evolution of BBC & Electron Games?
Towards the end of the commercial lifetime we were getting complex dithered colours e.g E-type, Holed Out, Exile, big sprite action games e.g. cyborg warriors, Ballistix? and Nevyron; and 3D solid filled vector.graphics I.e 3D Pool. Have always wondered what would happen if people took up the baton ...

Re: Drawing a circle in BBC BASIC
I find simonsideburns' plotter the best as while I don't fully understand it yet it seems simpler than the Bresenham ones. This based on that plotter is what I wanted to do: 10MODE5 30r%=150:h%=300:v%=300:c%=RND(2) 35VDU19,1,2+RND(2)-1;0;0;0; 36VDU19,2,4+RND(2)-1;0;0;0; 40PROCfilledcircle(h%,v%,r%,c...

Re: Drawing a circle in BBC BASIC
Ok im not sure how .Biged is implementing that with the 3 loops but fine. Also am I right in thinking that the circle can't easily be filled by this method but requires the iterative method mentioned earlier in this and another thread? My object is to fill the circle with a limited set of random col...

This helps a bit: 30 FOR i%=0 TO 89:x=COS(i%*S):xc%(i%)=100*x:yc%(i%)=100*SQR(1-x^2):NEXT Total time 4.74 Edit, but 28 FOR i%=0 TO 89:xc%(i%)=100*COS(i%*S):NEXT 29 FOR i%=0 TO 67:yc%(i%)=xc%(i%+22):NEXT 30 FOR i%=68 TO 89:yc%(i%)=xc%(i%-67):NEXT is just 3.35. Re: Drawing a circle in BBC BASIC
I got this from chatgpt which I tried to speed up a bit:
Why is it PI/180?
Code: Select all
MODE5
DIMxc%(89),yc%(89)
FORi%=0TO89:xc%(i%)=100*COS(i%*4*PI/180):yc%(i%)=100*SIN(i%*4*PI/180):NEXT
FORi%=0TO89:PLOT69,200+xc%(i%),200+yc%(i%):NEXT
ChatGPT
I notice that chatgpt can program in BBC basic and 6502 assembler. In future could this be a potential games creation tool?

Is there enough space to insert a mystery ship like a Generation Ship? It would be fun to know that there’s a few ‘out there’ somewhere that you have a (slim) chance of stumbling across. This is exactly what Angus Duggan did with Elite-A. This is the updated ship list - he added brand new ships fro...
