Re: Bitstik Knob

Pretty sure the knob has a rubbery feel but I'll check when I get home later today.

Happy to take measurements or even send one to UKWebb - I have a spare Apple II Bitstik somewhere in the loft.

Simplest way to image RISC iX floppies?

I won some floppies containing the "Recital RDBMS" for RISC iX a while back. I can't access my R260 at the moment but thought I'd better image the floppies as I don't think they're available elsewhere. (If anyone knows of or has already archived them, please say!) Is there a simple way of ...

Re: Creating Torch Z80 Images with MkTorch

I've not done it for ages but I'd be tempted to put the files you want onto a DFS disk image (using something like DFS Explorer) and then use the Torch utility RWACORN to move the files to the Torch disk image.

Re: Acorn Master Compact utility to copy files between ADFS and DOS?

There’s nothing obvious in the article about the publisher or whether distributed as ROM or disc etc The screenshot shows "(c) 1986 Acorn" so it looks like an in-house utility. I don't remember hearing about it in any of the UK Acorn magazines so maybe it was something that got sent to Ol...

Acorn Master Compact utility to copy files between ADFS and DOS?

I stumbled across a picture of the front cover of Olivetti Prodest User issue 4 on eBay today. It mentioned DOS emulation which caught my attention. Finding at least part of the magazine on the Internet Archive, it seems that there was an Acorn developed utility to transfer files between ADFS and DO...

Re: Running binaries on a Communicator

Thanks for confirming Rob, I'll be trying that out when I get a chance...though I'm not sure how I get compiled programs into MAME! How did you transfer yours? I have the Communicators connected to a PiBridge Econet Filestore so transferring files is easy - I've also got it connected to BeebEm on m...

Re: RISC OS South West Show 2024 24th February

It was good to meet a few Stardotters at today's show. Thanks to all who came along - hope you enjoyed it. In between chatting with visitors, I managed to get some time to convert a couple more Econet utilities to run on the Communicator (discovering an error in the OPCOM documentation in the proces...

Briefly had one of my Communicators out tonight in preparation for tomorrow's RISC OS South West Show so I tired setting the load and execution addresses as advised. Lo and behold it works - only had time for a brief play but I got my Communicator versions of *PROT and *UNPROT running :D Just need t...

Just a reminder that this is on Saturday. Along with a machine with my VideoNula, I'm hoping to bring...

Re: Running binaries on a Communicator

Not really, as they would only load if their existing load address happened to be available. And having loaded, the MOS interfaces that they use are probably no longer available. Not that hard to convert if you have the source however (not sure which ones you are after, but I think I have source of...

Re: The palette converter for the Archimedes

Interesting, but it seems that it was a standard monitor, because the typical European (PAL) monitor was able to display 520-576 lines, but by means of interlacing. Computer systems usually use half that number to avoid flickering. No - it's definitely much higher resolution and I'm well aware of h...

Re: The palette converter for the Archimedes

Another question would be this: were colour monitor resolutions really were limited to only 256 or so lines of non-interlaced vertical resolution in the early 1980s? Certainly, low-cost monitors were limited to television-level resolutions, which is how they came to be low-cost, but such a limitati...

Anyone in France?

Hi all, I'm after a favour from anyone living in France. The LCD screen on my telescope controller has broken and the only place that stocks replacements seems to be here . Unfortunately, they won't ship to the UK and so I'm looking for someone in France who would be prepared to order it and then sh...

Here's a small news piece on the Pluto board being used with the Beeb from Acorn User November 1985.

I remember watching the Juice TV program on BBC Wales at the time and being amazed that the graphics were done on the Beeb :D

Re: MAME: Touchscreen

I don't want you to damage it but maybe it clicks together somehow and need to find the clips to prise it apart. For anyone trying to open up a Touchpad, there are two "hidden" screws in the top of the case. One is at the bottom of the hole for the stylus and the other is opposite it unde...

Re: MAME: Touchscreen

Here's the Microvitec Touchscreen ROM. Even though it's a TMS2516, I read it as an AMD2716 as that's all my programmer can do. However, I think it should be okay as I believe they are equivalent.

The label says v1.1.

I'll have a look - I think the board above it could be difficult to remove as it wasn't clear to me how it's attached. If I can get it out, does anyone know how to read the ROM?

Looks really good Chris - I particularly like the scrolling on the SWRAM version :)

I don't know if this is a bug, and I've not been able to recreate it, but I think one time the third Ghostbuster seemed to go straight to the door after the first two had gone through.

How are you manipulating the CRTC registers? And have you remembered to do the divide by 8 when setting the new screen address?
