Re: All-day 'Virtual' Acorn session #6, Saturday 1st August 2020, 9am - 11pm [NOW FULL!]

As discussed on Tuesday, and previously mentioned by @sydney, my Beeb is having issues and has been logged for attention in the A-Team morning session. Here is a picture of my Beeb board, which is currently booting up to a flashing cursor with no beep. I've also just taken off a Watford Electronics ...

Re: Acorn Discord group?

Nobody else seems to have made one, and I do think a Stardot Discord server would be incredibly useful.

Here, I made one:

I can transfer ownership to one of the admins if needed

Elk Manic Miner?

So Manic Miner is one of my favourite games from the 80s. Luckily, the Beeb port is quite good. However, as far as I can tell, there was never an Elk port! It would certainly have been possible, seeing as Jet Set Willy got ported to the Electron (albeit with less colours than the other versions). Is...

Thanks Dave,
How much would it be for just a Plus 1, or a Plus 1 with a disc interface?

Elk disk drive controller

Is there any way to attach a disk drive controller to an Electron without a Plus 1 or Plus 3? I'd like to use my Beeb disk drive but I don't have any of the system expansions, which can be quite expensive. Is there a cheaper option? Ideally, it would plug straight into the back of the Elk but I don'...

I've noticed another issue with the game:
I haven't seen a single asteroid in the multiple hours I've played!
I played the Electron version for a few minutes today and I saw about 4 asteroids. Is there a problem with the Beeb version? If so, is there a patched disk image of some kind?

Elk strange behaviour

I've recently bought an Electron from eBay. After plugging it in, it appeared to work fine. There was a beep on startup and the machine appeared to work fine. However, after leaving the machine on for maybe 2 minutes, it would crash and freeze with whatever was on the screen. At this point, unpluggi...

Re: BBC B turned off randomly

Yeah, the PSU includes over voltage protection on the +5V output as duikkie says. If this activates, the PSU will go into a protection mode with all output voltages falling to zero. This condition can only be cleared by switching off. If this is what happened, then there is a fault with the PSU tha...

BBC B turned off randomly

So I was just playing Elite when, all of a sudden, my Beeb powered off. There weren't any other issues or symptoms; it just turned off. After turning off and on the switch on the back of the Beeb, it turned back on as normal. Should I be concerned if this has only happened the one time, or does it m...

When I first load up Elite after a power on, the colours of the console on the bottom have a completely different palette. Re: Very noisy picture from UHF

As suggested above, first reduce the brightness, contrast and colour controls. Then if you still have a poor image, try fine tuning. All good advice, but don't forget the most straightforward cause of a noisy picture: a weak signal. A faulty UHF cable (e.g. inner conductor open-circuit or shorted t...

On my BBC B, the RGB output (I'm using a SCART cable) works fine and the picture looks great. However, when using the UHF output, the picture is very noisy and there are streaks everywhere. Does anyone know why this might be the case? I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that the spea...

Thanks, I'll most likely use that for the label; although, there must have been a few different versions of the label for this game. My copy had an illustrated design/logo and a different font of text.
