Re: UEF chunk 0102

I made a set of Chuckie Egg sample UEFs using all possible data chunk types here.

Arbitrary UEFs can be constructed using mktibet.php and tibetuef.php, latest versions of which are in subsequent posts here.

Re: UEF chunk 0102

Let me put it this way: I flat-out refuse to tolerate a situation where my hard work on B-Em is shoved into some obscure github branch and left to rot.

As such, if necessary, I will fork the emulator, call it version 3, and ignore any complaints about my having done so.

Re: Assembly compiler

Citadel was built using the System Software Assembler ROM.

Nowadays I think most people cross-assemble, i.e. develop and build on a modern OS.

Re: B-Em Tape Overhaul v3 (SAVE support, autotests)

Haunted Abbey DCD pulses As I suspected. B-Em-TOH only pulses DCD twice during the leader sequence; on hardware it pulses something like 17 times. I thought I had the DCD behaviour correct, but I've clearly missed something. edit: Pretty sure my UEF decoder is generating silence at twice the length...

Re: B-Em Tape Overhaul v3 (SAVE support, autotests)

EDIT: I tried DoctorWhoAndTheMinesOfTerror(MicroPower).uef from vanekp and that one worked fine in b-em, so it does look like the Acorn preservation UEF file is damaged/invalid. Good to know. I should probably still check the HQ-UEF just to make sure B-Em is decoding it correctly. It doesn't look l...

Re: B-Em Tape Overhaul v3 (SAVE support, autotests)

I don't know if the CSW would help in this case, because it seems beebjit can load the UEF. Neither the vanilla master branch nor my TOH patch of B-Em will load it; so it appears to be a B-Em problem. Bah! The reason I asked for the CSW was because I could load the CSW of Dr Who successfully wherea...

Seems there is a problem loading The Haunted Abbey . I'll discuss this here to avoid messing up the other thread. This is an interesting one. I've never seen this before -- there are carefully-timed bursts of leader tone: Screenshot 2024-05-15 at 13.27.33.png There is no data (i.e. no 1200 Hz) anywh...

Does anyone have the CSW file for Haunted Abbey? I’m not having any luck loading the HQ UEF into b-em and figured I may have better luck with the CSW. Thanks. Re: B-Em Tape Overhaul v3 (SAVE support, autotests)

I've probably said it before, but this is some very nice work. A lot of the technical detail is over my head but it is neat to see emulation accuracy being improved so dramatically, and the prospect of having unit tests for b-em is intriguing. Thanks for doing this! Thank you. I appreciate this. Th...

B-Em Tape Overhaul v3 (SAVE support, autotests)

I botched yesterday's attempt at releasing my latest B-Em tape overhaul effort. So, with less bungling, hopefully: menu.png I've included ZIPs of the source code patch ( toh3-1_rc3_diff.zip ) for Linux and MacOS, and also a highly experimental unsigned Windows build ( toh3-1_rc7_win32build.zip ). I have made posts in the past about a possible release of the code currently in Git but I have limited time for testing and certainly won't have the time to work out what should be an exhaustive test suite. It is something we should think about though. I also do investigate bugs raised on the GitHu...

The two repeats of the same data are labelled using .1 and .2 suffixes. I don't know if I've ever seen a V2.x. Perhaps I have, and I just don't remember.

a file called "V1" on the tape It may be unwise to read too much into the meaning of "V1". Many early Acornsoft tapes have these zero-length files on them, and I don't know what they're for. It is tempting to interpret them as software version numbers, but I don't know whether t...

Second, I tried halving the number of frames to 128 (0x80) (as in the attached SSD image). That has worked well for me. It's not impossible to win if you're careful, but it's hard and you definitely risk running out of energy. Completing randos at double radiation loss is pretty impressive. Remind ...

customised I had a quick go at this. Attached is a randomiser disc image that has been hacked to insert some extra code at &43E8. The first radiation loss will take the usual 256 frames. However, after this, a point of energy is lost once every 16 frames (which is ridiculous, but a convincing d...
