No, that's my mistake. Hopefully the attached has UNDO working.

Beta 3 is attached. Other than having UNDO enabled, it's unchanged from Beta 2.

Re: Artic Adventure A - Planet of Death

The west/down thing is part of the original game. I think the idea is that as you are "east of a deep pit" it's somewhat logical that both west and down lead to the actual pit (which doesn't exist in game, you end up in the quiet room). Of course, in a modern game one would not just allow ...

Re: Artic Adventure A - Planet of Death

Attached is beta 2. I've reviewed all the locations for referenced but unimplemented items and hopefully fixed all the issues I'm aware of. Ideally it needs someone else to work through this and let me know what else I've messed up (particularly given that there are multiple solutions to some puzzle...

Yes, it's pretty rough around the edges at the moment. The plan is to go through it again next weekend and fix this sort of thing. I'm unlikely to have the time or energy before then.

I'll run through my port of "Planet Of Death" through the latest version.
Which, being an undemanding game, worked as expected.

Re: PunyInform and Ozmoo

I managed to find a small problem with the latest release. In templates/loader.bas, it's missing a closing double quote at the end of line 269. DEF FNshadow_extra IF shadow_state=${shadow_state_screen_only} THEN ="(screen only) This causes beebasm to throw an error when using PUTBASIC. Appendin...

Re: Artic Adventure A - Planet of Death

Very rough beta 1 attached (.SSD & .Z3). There may be bugs and divergent behaviour from the original arising from my mistakes and what looks to me to be very under implemented things in the original. Some of these seem to lead to inconsistencies and odd emergent behaviour (is that the right term...

Artic Adventure A - Planet of Death

This was discussed in episode 2 of the Retro Adventurers Podcast. As I have fond memories of this game and had time on my hands, I've been porting this to Inform6/PunyInform, mostly for my own amusement (and, yes, I know there's no real point). I have it mostly roughed out and I've been trying to mo...

Re: Open House

Thanks tricky, and an excellent observation: of course VideoNuLA would be perfect for this. Is it supported by any emulator that I can run on my MacBook? B2 supports VideoNULA (at least as far as the colour palette goes) and runs on macOS. There's an option under Tools > Configs (scroll down to the...

Re: Retro Adventurers Podcast

It shows up on my ancient iPad in the podcasts app, but it's not near the top of the list. Note that it's "retro adventurers" not "retro adventures" as that's caught at least one person out. Not that I ever use this app myself.

Re: Retro Adventurers Podcast

There's some discussion about discoverability in the announcement thread, but I just subscribed to the RSS feed directly in a podcatcher application (gPodder in my case), this being my preferred way of downloading podcasts.

Re: b2 - new emulator

You actively need to save the disc image before removing it from the emulated drive with the corresponding menu entry. Don't know if this behavior is a bug or a feature. Yes, I lost my first save disk in b2 that way, too. But now I know how it works, I can live with it I think you need to use the &...

Re: Lost in 17% of DuckSpace - Development & Beta Testing

Just a quick update. After a long hiatus I have started working on this again. I'm starting by updating it to the same (OK, still not great) standard as Duck! Me? Then I need to flesh out the middle section.

I still think it needs a better name though. Any suggestions?

Duck! Me? - Release 3

Can someone please update http://bbcmicro.co.uk/game.php?id=4129 to release 3 from https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=419452#p419452 and perhaps include the map and walkthrough? It's not super important, but the existing one has a couple of bugs in it, one of which is game breaking. Jeremy

Re: Unfinished Text Adventures

I did start writing up an annotated walkthrough for my game but I'm not sure when I'll have the time and energy to finish it.

Unfortunately, playing one's own game for the umpteenth time can get a bit tedious. Also I found another bug.

Update, map and walkthrough here.

Re: Cloak Of Darkness (GAC) – text adventure game demo

For what it's worth (almost certainly nothing), when I was actively trying to write an adventure game, both in assembler and Inform6/PunyInform, I had several goes at implementing variable light levels because I felt the full light to absolute dark transition was unrealistic. I'm not sure why I was ...

While I haven't worked on this further, I did have some thoughts on how someone else might pick up the baton and run with it, should anyone so desire. The byte code interpreter is <6Kb. Thinking about @julie_m's comments, I took a look at the test script for my own game, which is written in Inform6/PunyInform, so it has a somewhat sophisticated parser. However, most of the commands used to play the game are either a direction or a simple VERB/NOUN. In a few cases I have to chuck an...

While Infocom didn't release games for the BBC, it turns out they did have an unreleased interpreter https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=408727#p408727 . Further down that thread I did package the games mentioned in an Infocom memorandum with this interpreter (lightly fixed) so you can pla...

Hard to say, it's not my game, but if such a sequence exists, then one would have to consider skipping "Moonbase Theta" as that's someone else's current IP.
