You could always send it off to someone else to fix! Mark at Retroclinic should be able to sort it.

Re: Hello - Acorn hardware find
Welcome! As a regular eBayer - yes someone will buy them. I personally mostly buy ZX81s to do up. I almost exclusively buy untested ones as these are the only ones that ever go cheap enough to be worth the effort. Prices can vary enormously from sale to sale with seemingly little reason. There are a...

I’m not sure to be honest. The disc image was provided by someone on here. I will have to have a look back and see.

Ah! That makes sense! Only having sold (a lot of) refurbished one-offs I have never had to use variations.

I never search by category, just keywords.

I played Elite to death BITD but only really came across Elite A relatively recently. It certainly looks to be a serious technical achievement. Is that the fascination?

Re: 'Good' adventure games
I managed to squeeze a seemingly reasonable parser into my SITC game. In theory it would support something like SHOOT THE WEREWOLF WITH THE SILVERBULLET THEN TAKE IT’S PELT AND GO SOUTH. It would just split the sentence into an array of individual commands based on AND / THEN etc. and parse them one...

Re: The Hobbit : Exploring Wilderland in BASIC
Excellent project!
I also didn’t play this BITD but have recently read The Hobbit with my son. I mentioned that there was a game of the book on one of my ‘old computers’ which we played but he found it hard going even knowing how the book goes.

Re: Frontier Elite II - combat
Agreed. I got great frame rate on my PC but could not do the combat.
I tried it on my unexpanded Atari ST a couple of years ago. It was seconds per frame rather than frames per second.
With the new combat tricks it is a lot less annoying. Will see if I can anywhere with it now.

Frontier Elite II - combat
I was very excited when I saw a copy of Frontier Elite II in a games shop back in the 90s and immediately bought it. It ran superbly on my 486 DX4 100 on maximum detail etc. I remember marvelling at the scenery as I flew away from Merlin and up into the sky and then space. And with music too! Having...

Re: DOS image won’t boot on Electron
After much faffing with images and my (now nearly dead due to bent pins) CF card reader I got various working in BeebEM DOS files on my CF card:
Hmmm. Try a different source image and I get one of these two results.
